Features for Productivity
For mixed size documents, I usually set maximum size and let the Auto Page Size do its job.You should use the Automated Rotation of Documents for non specific orientation. The Canon DR-C230 has such a setting and you can set it up in the driver.
The first productivity feature that we look for is the Auto Color . The Canon DR-C230 has this feature and we recommend you use it.
I can’t imagine running a scanner without the Blank document removal . This setting is mandatory on just about any machine and it is available on the Canon DR-C230.
You will definitely enjoy the Multi image output . It’s a life saver, for clients that are picky with their output
Quality of images
While the Background Removal works great with most documents, you should double check documents with images and pictures.I preffer using the Page Margin Cleanup setting for text documents. I would not use it for photos though
Skew Reduction can be done by enabling this setting in the scanner driver. It will only conflict with other special settings on the Canon DR-C230 scanner from time to time, so keep it on.
Correct Punched Holes is a setting that is missing on the Canon DR-C230. I would have wished it was active.|Would you get a scanner without the Correct Punched Holes function as it is the situation with the Canon DR-C230.
I preffer using Vertical Streaks Reduction on typed pages, but this device doesn’t feature it.
Extra Features
How good is the Canon DR-C230 for crumpled documents? Just turn on the Manual Feed Mode and check for yourself!What I love about the Bar Code Discovery modules, are the QR code recognition features. It makes for flawless scanning.
As you probably know, Auto Document Separation works with Barcodes or Patchcodes.
An Optical Character Reading is standard with this scanner, as you would expect.

The capture area seems to be the same for both scanners at 8.27 in x 11.69 in.
The Canon DR-C230 functions with a CIS sensor, and the Epson ES-400 has a CCD sensor. As we often see it the CCD equipment offers a wider color gamut , and it’s the same in this case.
As you may have noticed in the specs table, The Epson ES-400 is able to capture extra-long documents (240 in in length) in comparisson to it’s competitor (118.1 in in length).
If you have a look at connectivity options, one finds USB 2.0 on the Canon DR-C230 and SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and Ethernet (optional) on Epson ES-400.
When looking at actual scanning speed, the Epson ES-400 can scan at 35 sheets in one minute while the other machine can only reach 30 ppm.
