Canon DR-F120 Review | Cheap, but buy another scanner instead!

The Canon DR-F120 was specificaly designed to be a cheap office scanner that will scan most of the A4 documents you have

It comes with a flatbed scanning unit that will help you scan bound material or just about everything that can’t go through the automatic feeder

On paper it looks good, but we don’t think it will work just as well in real life.

Canon DR-F120 Datasheet Explained

With the Canon DR-F120 you can capture a dimmension of 8.27 in x 11.69 in.

An equipment such as the Canon DR-F120, reaches an optical resolution of 600.

The equipment is capturing using a high end sensor, that is CIS.

This scanning machine can be connected with USB 2.0.

Expect a scanning speed of up to 20 Documents every minute in simplex.

On the other hand, in duplex mode the Canon DR-F120 will scan at 40 Images every minute in duplex .

Maybe you’ll be surprised to hear that this scanner is optimized for an average Duty cycle of 800 pages daily.

If you have to replace rollers, then probably they have scanned about 600.000 sheets.

Specs for paper handling

The Overlap detection (Ultrasonic sensor), Length detection will take care of the Multifeed Detection, and prevent the feeding of 2 pages at the same time.

You will have to work with an Capacity of the ADF of 50 documents, on this machine.

The maximum Sheet thickness that the Canon DR-F120 can process is around 9 to 32 lb..

If you have a document that is 39.37 in long, the Canon DR-F120 will scan it.

Canon DR-F120 accesories unboxing

The dimmension this device takes on your workbench is 18 x 5 x 5 inches.

Curious about the mass of this equipment? You will see it weighs around 1.8 lbs.

In the package you will see the included applications: CaptureOnTouch3.

Features for Productivity

The Automtic Page Size Detection is a setting that still amazes me today. It works very well with the Canon DR-F120 scanner.

The driver of the the Canon DR-F120 offers Automatic Rotation of Images , and it is easy to use it.

One feature I enjoy in the Canon DR-F120 and other machines, is the Document Auto Color Detection . Try it, and it will definitely change your life.

When was the last time you had to remove blank pages manually? The Canon DR-F120 will do this automatically, when you use the Blank document removal function.

I just love the MultiStream spec. It allows me to output files in color, black and white or grayscale in the same job

Quality of images

Gone are the days when post processing of documents is required. With the Background Cleaning option, your documents will have a perfect background.

The Document Edge Cleanup helps you by cleaning your scanned scanned documents.

Document Allignment can be done by enabling this setting in the scanner driver. It will only conflict with other special settings on the Canon DR-F120 scanner from time to time, so keep it on.

For standard documents, I always have the Hole Removal setting turned on in the driver.

I really like using Streaks Detection on text documents, but the Canon DR-F120 does not have this option.

Extra Features

When scanning fragile documents, this Manual Feed Mode setting will help you scan safely with the Canon DR-F120.

Although the Barcode Recognition isn’t the only separation method, I recommend you get it.

Separate Documents Automatically is one of those features I really like playing with. Currently, for Separate Documents Automatically I still find patch codes reliable.

I can’t imagine this scanner without the OCR setting, as I tend to use it quite a lot these days.

Would you scan forms without the Zonal OCR module? I enjoy the Zonal OCR setting too much not to use it.
