In this article we test the Xerox 4830 document scanner, which is a combination of flatbed and ADF scanner. We love this kind of device, as we always like to test mixed batches, that have to be scanned on ADF and flatbed as well.
What’s good? The Xerox DocuMate 4830 can scan A3 documents and has a flatbed. It does 60 images / minute, has a 75-page tray and it can scan 3000 pages per day at 600dpi
What’s bad? Pricey. Would only buy if the price is under 2000

Features for Productivity
For mixed size documents, I usually set maximum size and let the Auto Crop do its job.The driver of the the Xerox 4830 offers Automated Rotation of Documents, and it is easy to use it.
It’s often a good thing to have color pages identified automatically. A Xerox 4830 scanner will let you use this function easily.
You have probably heard of the Blank page detection setting. Well, it will be available with this scanner so we recommend you enable it.
It’s still strange to think the Xerox 4830 does not have MultiStream . It’s a bad surprise from my point of view.
Quality of images
Gone are the days when post processing of documents is required. With the Smooth Background option, your documents will have a perfect background.Sometimes the Edge Correction function might not work correctly. For the Xerox 4830 with colored images.
Straightening documents automatically is possible with the Xerox 4830. Luckily, the Document Allignment feature will allign most images quite well.
Hole Punch Removal is interesting to use as it provides you with clean images on the perforated side.
I preffer using Vertical Streaks Reduction on typed pages, but the Xerox 4830 does not have this option.
Extra Features
How good is the Xerox 4830 for crumpled documents? Just turn on the Manual Feed Mode and check for yourself!I can’t imagine scanning without Barcode Detection . It really is a good separation or indexing method.
As you probably know, Automatic Separation of Documents works with Barcodes or Patchcodes.
An OCR is standard with this scanner, as you would expect.
I would have loved a Field Indexing feature. It’s not available on the Xerox 4830 scanner.

Both the Xerox 4830 and the Epson DS-50000 are equal in scanning area, both are able to capture an area of 11.69 x 16.53 in.
A Xerox 4830 operates with a CIS sensor, while the Epson DS-50000 has a CCD sensor. Usually the CCD scanner offers a higher scanning depth , and it’s also the same for our case.
