This wireless portable document scanner will allow you to work fast and cable-free. It might not have Bluetooth (no portable scanner does), but it is close enough and will sure get the job done.

Even though the Epson ES-60W doesn’t have an Automatic Document Feeder ADF tray or Duplex scanning, it can scan at a speed of 15 IPM.

Dimensions are an important aspect when choosing a portable scanner, so we like the fact that this one weighs 0.66 lb. (0.3 kg) and has a size of 10.7 in. x 1.3 in. x 1.8 in. (27.1 x 3.3 x 4.5 cm). You should not experience any trouble while handling this A4 portable document scanner. It is indeed one of the smallest portable document scanners you can find on the market.

The built-in battery and wireless connectivity (802.11 b/g/n) will allow you to work without the hassle of being plugged to anything. However, it is good to know that the Epson ES-60W is also compatible with USB 2.0.

At a rate of 50 IPM, the Brother ADS-1700W is a fast, portable document scanner that supports both Micro USB 3.0 and Wireless 802.11 b/g/n. It is one of our favorite portable scanners because it has every feature you can think of.

This device features duplex scanning and has an ADF Tray, but this comes at a cost. Indeed, the Brother ADS-1700W is bigger and heavier than most portable scanners, measuring 11.8 in. x 3.3 in. x 4.1 in. (29.9 x 8.3 x 10.4 cm) and weighing 3.7 lb. (1.67 kg). The bult-in image sensor of this compact mobile document scanner has a 600 DPI resolution.

While it would be nice indeed if it had Bluetooth, the Brother ADS-1700W still offers a wide range of software and features for fast and neat scanning. For instance, it is equipped with Automatic Color Detection, Automatic Image Rotation, Background Removal, Automatic Deskew, Punch Hole Removal and OCR.

It has an Automatic Feeder Tray with an ADF capacity is 20 sheets. The input capacity is quite large for a portable scanner. It also has an interesting feature: scanning to USB flash drives. you can plug a USB thumb drive in it and it will save the scanned images on it. Brother also makes the Brother ads-1250w and Brother dsmobile product line.

The Fujitsu ScanSnap IX100 is the third portable scanner with a bluetooth replacement. The optical resolution is 600 dpi color and black & white. It is a wireless document scanner with a scan speed of 11 pages per minute. It doesn’t have a dual CIS sensor, so it is not a color duplex document scanner, nor does it have an auto document feeder.

It comes with a rechargeable battery that can charge using USB power. Not all scanners can recharge through via USB cable and choose to go for AC Adapters with classic power cords because of the high power. The battery lasts for about 260 scans. The scanner also has a USB cable included in the package.

The software bundle for this sheetfed scanner includes: ScanSnap Home, ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap. The ScanSnap is feature-packed, easy to set up and quite user friendly. It also has a barcode scanner function. The FineReader is a great choice for Optical Character Recognition and our #1 choice for document scanning in our digitization center.

The device is energy star certified and has minimal power consumption.

The Doxie GO SE Wifi is our fourth great choice for a document scanner with a wireless replacement for bluetooth. What is really great about this mobile scanner is that it doesn’t need to connect through Bluetooth at all to any computer or smartphone because it works without one.

You can just scan photos and documents with this portable handheld scanner directly to the included memory card (An 8GB SD Card). It has a scanning resolution of 600 dpi made possible by a CCD sensor (Charge-Coupled Device). Doxie provides TWAIN drivers for Windows and Mac on their website.

The use of MicroSD cards is something we believe most manufacturers should implement because it allows them to become fully-independent. You don’t need to have to depend on a PC connection to perform a scan job.

This portable compact scanner from Brother has lower specs than the ADS-1700W but also a lower price. It has a Wifi Direct connection together with a USB connection. The scan speed is up to 8 sheets per minute and the scanning size of the built-in CIS image sensor is up to A4.

This mobile color page scanner doesn’t have an Automatic Feeder Tray or duplex scanning like the more powerful ADS-1700W. Nor does it have the big color touchscreen.

It is part of a line of portable wireless scanners that are low-cost but packs plenty of features for the average user. Plus it has very similar scan software with the higher-end ADS-1700W.

You can use it with the Brother Web Connect module which sends files to Google Drive, Dropbox or other cloud storage platforms automatically.

Which is the best portable document scanner with a bluetooth replacement?

Even though no manufacturer makes bluetooth scanners, wireless scanners are the closest you can get. The Penpower Worldpenscan wireless mobile device is not even close to what these scanners can offer and that is why we didn’t include it in our list. The Epson ES-60W and the Brother ADS-1700W are the best choices in our opinion. If you want a great balance between features and price, then the Epson ES-60W is for you but if you want the highest specs, the Brother ADS-1700W is the best choice. If you want a portable scanner that doesn’t need bluetooth nor wifi, then you should go for the Doxie GO SE Wifi. Another solid choice is the VuPoint ST 470 magic wand portable scanner, also called a pen scanner. If you just want a great portable USB scanner then the Fujitsu Scansnap s1300i is one of the best choices on the market. If you are looking for a photo scanner, our recommendations would be Epson’s FastFoto photo scanning device or flatbed scanners like the Canon CanoScan Lide 400 and Epson Perfection V600. The last choice is to go for a color inkjet all-in-one printer scanner like The HP Envy, that also has a scanner and bluetooth connection.
