Epson DS-40 Datasheet Explained
This scanner is capable of getting 4 images per minute. It’s not something remarkable at this size since most devices around the same price deliver a higher speed at 9.2 images per minute.
It can search for A4 papers, which again is on par with its rivals as most portable scanners can only go as high as this.
It also offers 600dpi scanning. 600 That’s a lot, that’s more than you’ll ever need. For 200 or 300dpi, you can do normal office jobs, without any difficulties and the OCR works fantastically at 600dpi.
Having a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and High Bandwidth Wi-fi come with it is a big plus because these days Wi-Fi is a must-have and this device has it. It also has a Twain GUI so that more advanced scanning software can implement this.
The maximum document size is 8.5 in. x 36 in. (215 x 914 mm) which is quite decent for scanners at this price. and as far as the paper thickness you can put in the scanner is concerned, this is quite decent for a portable scanner as it only allows for paper thickness at 35-270g/m2 A CIS module is used on this detector. Many handheld scanners use a CIS sensor, but for scanners around this price range use CCD which is more superior.
Features for Productivity
The scanner cannot search for a duplex, which is very significant as it saves time. That means you have to pass the sheet of paper through the scanner twice and in order to scan both sides. this is a disadvantage to this product as 10 % of portable scanners with a similar price have Duplex Scanning.
It doesn’t come with automatic identification of colours. This ensures it will identify and determine whether the paper is in black & white or in colour. Why is that so important? It will greatly reduce the file size for black & white files so that the files are opened more easily in Adobe Acrobat or any program you are using. 70 % of portable scanners with a similar price have Automatic color detection but this product is not part of them It also lacks an adaptive rotating feature for images. What this feature does is look at the image, and can tell if you put it upside down and adjust it automatically but this is lacking on this product Automatic image cropping is also a function that you will find on the Epson DS-40. this means that the scanner cannot tell how big the image is neither can it automatically crop it so that black parts are not on the edges. Again, this isn’t unusual since 50% of portable scanners are fitted with this functionality for this price.
The device also lacks a removal function in the background. This “cleans” the scanned image’s background, making it whiter and so the image’s content stands out much better. That’s a feature you’ll only find on 20% of portable scanners for this price on half of the scanners, so definitely a disadvantage for this product.
Quality of images
The Epson DS-40 comes with adjustable deskew, as well. Most scanners have this too in its price range. This feature completely straightens the picture, even if it is only 1 degree, it might correct it.
it cannot remove punch holes from documents by the scanner. This is not a crucial thing, but it is good to have a cleaner overall paper. however, 20 % of portable scanners with a similar price have Hole Punch Removal and so it runs at a disadvantage against them if punch hole removal is of great preference.
The device comes with OCR technology, as well. Now, this is important because it is one of the main features. It can convert the document that has been checked to a searchable PDF or Word document. The scanned picture reads the letter. OCR is extremely important to have on a scanner these days..
Epson DS-40 accesories unboxing
This product doesn’t come with an ADF tray or automatic document feeder tray is that part of the scanner where you stack documents, and the scanner feeds them automatically during the scanning process. no other portable scanner also has an ADF tray because having it defeats the concept of portability.
This product is light weighted and smaller than its contemporaries having a total weight of 1.1 ib (0.49kg) and dimensioned at 11.65 in. x 1.65 in. x 2.75 in. (29.5 x 4.1 x 6.9 cm) It comes with a lot of software included like Epson Scan, NewSoft Presto! BizCard, Epson Document Capture Pro, ABBYY FineReader OCR (Amazing software by the way), Epson Document Capture. I don’t how many of these you are going to actually use in real life, but it’s good to have them nonetheless. .
