Xerox 4700 scanner | Our honest review

The good: The Xerox Documate 4700 can scan up to a giant A3 size, it has fantastic OCR and can operate on it’s own. The bad: Flatbed only. Should be paired with an ADF scanner

Is it worth buying? Only if your office or project needs the A3 flatbed format. How much does it cost now?

Features for Productivity

Enable the Automatic Cropping and pages will come out at their original size.

I like the Automated Rotation of Documents for documents that are not homogenous when it comes to orientation. A mix of portrait and landscape documents will be handled by the Automated Rotation of Documents mode.

It’s always a nice thing to have colored documents detected automatically. A Xerox 4700 offers this function as standard through its driver.

Affraid of manually removing white pages? Don’t be, as the Blank page detection is available with the Xerox 4700.

MultiStream is a standard feature on scanners these days, but not on the Xerox 4700. I must say it’s a bit dissapointing.

Quality of images

The Background Cleaning is a must have feature with any scanner and the Xerox 4700 scanner has it as standard.

Have you tried using the Image Edge Fill for images? If it works correctly for pictures, then keep it enabled on the Xerox 4700 permanently.

Straightening documents automatically is possible with the Xerox 4700. Luckily, the Straightening Image feature will allign most images quite well.

Hole Removal is a setting that is not present on the Xerox 4700. I would have hoped it was available.|Would you get an equipment that is missing the Hole Removal feaure as it is the situation with the Xerox 4700.

I enjoy using Streaks Detection on typed pages, but the scanner here is missing it.

Extra Features

Sometimes I prefer enabling the Manual Feed Mode from the driver, to make sure the Xerox 4700 will process older documents safely.

I’ve started indexing through Detect Barcodes for some time now, most often using QR codes. This scanner has Detect Barcodes , but check if it’s optional or standard.

On the Xerox 4700 the Auto Document Separation setting is not present. That decreases the throughput a lot.

An Optical Character Reading is standard with this scanner, as you would expect.

I would have loved a OCR Predefined Zone feature. It’s not available on the Xerox 4700 scanner.
