The Canon ImageFormula DR-C225WII is the first Wifi Flatbed Scanner. As mentioned before, basically what you do is you buy the automatic document feeder ADF scanner that has WiFi ieee 802.11 connectivity together with the Flatbed document scanner. This flatbed scanner has a scan speed of 25 sheets per minute and its sheet feeder tray can hold up to 30 pages.

Canon recommends that you only scan up to 1,500 sheets each day, which should be enough for an office or home scanner. The maximum scanning size is A4 format and it has a CIS (Contact Image Sensor) with a scanning resolution of 600×600 dpi which is and this is true, enough. Most digital images will have more detail in them than you ever need at an optical resolution of 600 dots per inch in real life. Purists will argue that you need 1200 dpi or even more, but for real life where you have to share, store and post scanned images it doesn’t work because the files are too large.

You can connect this WiFi Flatbed Scanner through USB 2.0 to your Windows PC or Mac as well if you don’t want to use the wireless lan access point connection. The software in the package includes CaptureOnTouch V4.1, eCopy PDF Pro Office, Card Iris. The bundled software includes basic Optical Character Recognition functions but it’s not very advanced. I personally would recommend the purchase of an ABBYY FineReader license of the newest version if you want the full OCR experience and convert your documents to searchable PDF and Word documents.

The software that ships with this color flatbed scanner also has some automatic color image correction features to improve the scanned documents and photos like color detection, rotation, cropping, deskew and background cleaning which will reduce post-scan editing in Photoshop or Lightroom. It is also a barcode scanner, it has the ability to read and process barcodes on documents. The CaptureOnTouch app can automatically sync with your favorite cloud storage and upload the scanned images there automatically. It scans directly to the cloud and the cloud storages supported includes: Evernote, SharePoint, Google Drive, SugarSync, OneDrive and Dropbox. The included software can also export to the following file formats: PDF, TIFF, JPEG, Bitmap, PNG and PowerPoint.

This scanner uses an ultrasonic sensor to detect multifeed. Multifeed is just a term for when your scanner fed more than one sheet inside it. Canon says that the feed rollers (The only consumable part inside the scanner) need to be replaced every 100,000 sheets.

If you want a pure flatbed scanner and wifi isn’t a must anymore, Canon used to make the canon canoscan 9000f mark ii flatbed scanner which is not a wireless scanner but it is a fantastic high-resolution device. It is discontinued but you can still find it, check Amazon to find sellers who are still distributing it.

The Kodak Alaris S2060W is the second Wifi Flatbed Scanner that we will cover here. Like the Canon, you buy the the scanner as an automatic feeder scanner then you buy and attach the extra flatbed accessory. This scanner has a CIS (Contact Image Sensor) that can output your scans at an image resolution of 1200 dpi optical with no interpolation making it a great scanner for photos. It is a plus for this network document scanner, but as we mentioned earlier it really depends on what you use it for and it’s always a good idea to think before you scan at a 1200 dpi optical resolution if you really need the high resolution. For scanning photos it is perfect and for documents, it’s just going to bring a lot of hassle with the large file size.

This duplex document scanner has all 3 possible connectivity options: USB cable through USB 3.1 port, Ethernet Lan and Wlan. So you can connect it to your home or office network either through the network ports on the router or through the wireless access point. If not, just use Wifi Direct, an option that most wifi scanners have.

This desktop scanner is much faster than the Canon at 60 pages per minute in simplex mode and 120 images per minute in duplex scan mode, it is more towards a production scanner and of course costs much more. Kodak recommends that you scan 7,000 sheets every day and by this number you can tell that it’s capable of running in something more than a typical office environment. You can scan any sheet of paper that is between 7 lbs and 160 lbs. That includes even thicker paper like business cards. The maximum scan size is A4 for both the flatbed and the ADF.

This color image scanner comes with the following software: Alaris Smart Touch and Alaris Capture Pro Software Limited Edition (through web download). This software is compatible with both major operating systems running on your computer, Windows and Mac OS X. You can integrate the scanner with any custom scanning applications using the TWAIN, ISIS and WIA drivers. Now TWAIN is the most popular protocol for scanning and all major applications support it.

The Panasonic is even faster than the Kodak scanner with fast scanning speeds 70 pages per minute. It’s a WiFi Flatbed scanner and just like with the other ones, you buy the scanner with an ADF as standard and then you buy the flatbed accessory as an extra.

It has all the 3 connectivity options: USB connection (3.1) the standard for all office products, Ethernet networking and WiFi connection. You don’t have to order anything extra so that you can connect it to your wireless access point, every connection port is built into the scanner. With a duty cycle of 6,000 photos and documents per day and all the automated image enhancement features integrated into its software (Color mode detection, automatic cropping and deskew, edge correction and blank page detection), this sheetfed document scanner is ready for some high volume scanning. The feed rollers only last 100,000 sheets and we would have expected more from this sheetfed scanner.

Any document size up to A4 can be put through the ADF scanner, same with the flatbed unit. Panasonic provides drivers for Mac and Windows on their website.

The document imaging software bundle that comes in the package with the device has the following apps and business tools: CD-ROM (Device Driver, ISIS driver software, TWAIN driver software, User Utility, Scan Button Setting Tool, Image Capture Plus with the New OCR Engine, Operation manual, Control sheet (PDF)). The scanning app works on Mac and PC.

This color duplex document scanner uses a CIS sensor to scan documents. If you only scan text you won’t notice any differences between the CIS sensor and the CCD but if you scan color photos, the CCD will usually have the upper edge in color depth and image quality. It is similar to different sensors in digital cameras with megapixels. Even though they are the same in number, the image quality is vastly different between 2 types of image sensors. It also has a 600 dpi resolution.

The Panasonic KV-S1037X is the last Wifi Flatbed Scanner that we will be covering here. It’s more of an office scanner than the Panasonic KV-N1058X network scanner. But the story is the same, you need to order an extra flatbed unit so that you can convert this into a wireless flatbed scanner. It has the same connectivity options: WiFi, Ethernet and USB 3.1 but a much slower scan speed at 30 pages per minute and of course a lower price.

This office document scanner comes with the same document scanning software essentially: CD-ROM (Device Driver, ISIS driver software, TWAIN driver software, User Utility, Scan Button Setting Tool, Image Capture Plus with OCR Engine, Operation manual, Control sheet (PDF)). This is a sheet fed scanner for Macs and PCs and Panasonic offers drivers for both platforms.

What is the best WiFi Flatbed Scanner for me?

We assumed that you would be thinking: “of course there is a cheap A4 flatbed scanner with wifi connectivity, this is 2020!”. Well there isn’t and we think the Canon DR-C225WII is the one to get because it has all the features you need at a low price. Users seem to be generally happy with it after 6 months, so that should give you the confirmation that you are getting a reliable scanner. There are many great flatbed photo scanners, many of which can also scan film negatives but which do not have wifi and we reviewed all of them on our website. Our choices are the: epson perfection v550, epson perfection v600, epson perfection v850 pro, epson perfection v800, canon canoscan 9000f mkii, Canon canoscan lide 400 and Epson Expression 12000 XL. Maybe it is portable scanners that you are looking for. In this case our picks are the: brother ads-1700w mobile scanner which we love because it has all the features you need and a large touch screen, epson workforce es50 portable document scanner, epson workforce es-300w mobile document scanner, Vupoint Magic Wand portable scanner, fujitsu scansnap ix100 wireless portable scanner and Doxie Go SE. If desktop scanners are your choice, two great options are the Xerox Documate duplex combo scanner and Canon ImageFormula R40, the brother ads-2700w, kodak i3300, the Fujitsu Scansnap IX1500 color duplex document scanner, hp scanjet pro 2500 f1 flatbed scanner and Visioneer Patriot H60. A different approach to this can be to buy a wireless color printer scanner like an HP OfficeJet laser printer, but the scanners on all-in-one printers are known to be very slow and have low scan quality.
