It comes bundled with Readiris Pro 16, IRISCompressor Pro (Mac) and InstantResult software. Readiris Pro enables the scanner to convert images into Microsoft Word and Excel files. This software enables the scanner to create editable and searchable documents. The scanned images can also be converted to audio files.

IRISCan Book 5 Datasheet Explained

The IRISCan Book 5 scanner is very fast. In theory it can scan up to 60 pages per minute in black & white and 30 pages per minute in color. But remember that this is a wand scanner so your hand does all the work here. At 60 pages per minute it is the world’s fastest book scanner, but it doesn’t come anywhere close to the quality of a true book scanner. If you want speed but without the wand format, the Iriscan Pro was built exactly for that.

It supports several file formats up to A4 size. It can be used to scan bound documents such as books and magazines without having to rip the pages. It has a maximum document size of 8.5 in. x 47 in. (215 x 1200 mm). This means that it can scan documents that are as long as 47 inches( 1.2 meters).

It comes with a high resolution of up to 1200dpi. 1200dpi is a lot, it’s more than you will ever need. You can do normal office work with 300 or 600dpi without any problems. At 1200dpi the resolution is excellent.

The IRISCan Book 5 scanner supports Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity. It also comes with an upgraded version, IRISCan Book 5 scanner Wifi, that supports wireless connectivity.

It comes bundled with a TWAIN interface. This makes it possible to integrate the scanner to custom applications. It also comes with a Contact Image Sensor (CIS). This sensor requires the documents to perfectly touch the scanning glass for a perfect scan. This may compromise the image quality when scanning old or crumpled documents.

As far as what you can scan with it, the possibilities are endless: Books, magazines, documents, things that are just a few inches wide, it doesn’t matter. It is like having a flatbed scanner in the palm of your hand..

Features for Productivity

The IRISCan Book 5 scanner does not support duplex scanning. This means that it can only scan one side at a time. This, however, should not be a worry since it is very fast. It can only take you 2 seconds to scan both sides of a page! Clearly, it is faster than most duplex scanners.

It comes with automatic color detection. This is a great feature, especially when scanning mixed color documents. It enables the scanner to create perfect duplicates.

It does not offer automatic image rotation. This means that the images are stored just as they are captured. For instance, if you capture a document in landscape mode, the image will also be in landscape mode.

Automatic Image cropping is a feature that enables a scanner to automatically detect the size of your document and crop the scan accordingly. This scanner does not offer this feature.

While a document may have a clean background to the naked eye, when you scan it, the background might not look clean. This scanner offers background removal which cleans the background of the scanned image, making the content in the image stand out. This is not a common feature in most portable scanners and therefore it is a big plus.

To help you when scanning, Iriscan decided to put a color LCD screen on the scanner like on other iris iriscan book models. Most popular document scanners and desktop scanners don’t have that. Its competitor, the vupoint solutions magic wand portable scanner does have one however. It also has the Wifi connection that this one has. .

Quality of images

The IRISCan Book 5 scanner supports Optical Character Recognition (OCR). This enables it to create editable and searchable files.

It also offers automatic deskew. This ensures that documents that were not scanned straight are aligned accordingly.

It does not remove punch holes. This means that when scanning documents that have punch holes, the holes will appear in the scans. However, since the scanner is handheld, you can avoid scanning over the punch holes.

IRISCan Book 5 accesories unboxing

The IRISCan Book 5 scanner does not come with an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Tray. This, however, should not be something to worry about since it can compromise the scanner’s portability and weight.

In terms of size, it is 10.1 in. x 0.8 in. x 1.4 in. (27 x 2.2 x 1.4 cm). This makes it very portable. Another feature that makes it very portable is its weight. The scanner weighs 0.33 lb. (0.15 kg) only! This is lighter than most phones. You can literally carry it wherever you go.

It comes bundled with Readiris Pro 16 OCR software, IRISCompressor Pro (Mac) and InstantResult software. Readiris Pro enables the scanner to convert images into Microsoft Word and Excel files. This software enables the scanner to create editable Word, Excel files and searchable multipage PDF files. The software helps a lot when scanning books because it is the most frequent scenario where you need to be able to scan to PDF searchable.

This wifi scanner comes with an included Micro SD Card so it scans directly out of the box, no need to do install drivers. You just press the scan button and you should be good to go. After you are done scanning, you can transfer the scanned pages to your PC and Mac via Wifi or USB cable..
