What’s so special about it?

The Epson ES-65WR scanner is a fast, lightweight, portable document scanner. It can scan 30 images per minute. It has a resolution of up to 600dpi. It is very small in size and very light – it weighs 0.66 lb. (0.29 kg). It supports both wireless and USB connectivity. It can scan documents directly to a computer or mobile device via a wireless connection. It is powered by both battery and USB. It comes bundled with Premium accounting software that automatically extracts data from receipts and exports it to QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, TurboTax or Excel.

The Epson ES-65WR scanner is very fast. The scan speed is 30 images per minute. This makes it very fast and efficient. It comes with an optical resolution resolution of 600dpi. This is not the highest but it is pretty decent. Epson calls this the fastest, smallest and lightest wireless mobile single-sheet-fed document scanner in its class.

It supports several file formats up to A4 size. It has a maximum document size of 8.5 in. x 72 in. (215 x 1828 mm). This means that it can scan documents that are as long as 72 inches( 1.8 meters). It can scan documents whose thickness falls between 1 lb. to 21 lb. (1.48 – 80 gsm). This enables it to scan very thin receipts as well as thick documents like ID cards and also enables it to be a great Mobile Receipt scanner.

One of my favorite features is fast wireless connectivity. This scanner supports Wireless 802.11 b/g/n and USB 2.0 connectivity plus the included USB cable. The wireless feature allows you to scan to different devices without having to connect the scanner to a computer. There is no memory card support.

It comes bundled with a TWAIN driver interface. This makes it easy to integrate the scanner into custom applications. It also comes with a Contact Image Sensor (CIS). This sensor requires the documents to perfectly touch the scanning glass for a perfect scan. This may compromise the image quality when scanning old or crumpled documents.

Features for Productivity

The Epson ES-65WR scanner does not support duplex scanning. This means that when scanning double-sided documents, it can only scan one side at a time. This, however, should not be something to worry about since it is very fast. It can only take you 4 seconds to scan both sides of a page! Clearly, it is faster than most duplex scanners.

It does not offer automatic color detection. This means that you will need to change the color settings manually when scanning mixed color documents.

It does not offer Automatic Image Rotation. This means that the scans are stored just as they are scanned. For instance, if you scan a document in landscape mode, the scan will also be in landscape mode.

Many scanners offer automatic image cropping. This feature enables the scanner to automatically detect the size of your document and crop the scanned image accordingly. This scanner, however, does not offer this feature.

While a document may have a clean background to the naked eye, when you scan it, the background might not look clean. Most scanners offer background removal to help clean the background. This scanner, however, does not offer this feature and it may compromise the clarity and quality of the images.

Quality of images

The Epson Workforce ES-65wr wireless portable scanner comes bundled with a Nuance Optical Character Recognition (OCR). The Nuance OCR enables the scanner to create searchable PDFs, Word documents and excel files. This is a great feature, especially when organizing the scanned documents.

It does not support automatic Deskew. Automatic Deskew is a feature that aligns documents that were not scanned straight.

It does not offer Punch Hole Removal. This means that when scanning documents that have punch holes, the holes will appear in the scans. This may not affect the quality of the images in any way. Mostly the punch holes do not interfere with the documents’ contents. The punch holes will just appear as small, black circles.

The color depth of the scanner is 16-bit when you scan in color and 8-bit when digitizing in grayscale..

The Epson ES-65WR wireless portable color receipt scanner does not come with an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Tray. It does have an automatic feeding mode but not a tray, but in this price range only one in three scanners have it.

In terms of size, it is 13.3 in. x 2.6 in. x 5.6 in. (33.7 x 6.6 x 14.2 cm). This makes it very portable. Another feature that makes it very portable is its weight. The scanner weighs 0.66 lb. (0.29 kg) only! This is pretty light and you can literally carry it wherever you go and use it as needed.

The software included with this wireless color receipt scanner is Epson ScanSmart Accounting Edition Software that enables you to preview, email, organize and upload the scanned images plus this is a scanner with premium accounting features. The software is also great for receipt management and there is no subscription required. It is compatible with PC or Mac. You can use the Epson DocumentScan app if you want to scan to ios and Android devices.

You can scan invoices and receipts on the device and export to quickbooks. The manufacturers warranty is limited to 1 year only but you can buy 4-year protection plans on Amazon and for cleaning the scanner, Epson offers you the option to buy maintenance sheets for 20$ a piece.
