What’s so special about it?

The Epson DS-70 can scan a page in just 5.5 seconds. It’s powered by USB, so you can charge it using your laptop or powerbank and it also has OCR integrated. With this scanner you get some special features so that you can route and separate your documents. It has an automatic document feeder, but no ADF tray and it uses a CIS sensor for best imaging results that doesn’t need to be warmed up, it’s ready to scan instantly. The DS-70 can handle a variety of paper thicknesses, from 35gsm up to 270gsm. Worth noting that you can scan pieces of paper as long as 1.8 meters! That’s huge. The scanner also has a battery, so it doesn’t need to stay plugged in all the time.

Epson DS-70 Datasheet Explained

The Epson DS-70 has fast scan speeds at up to 11 images per minute, even though it’s not a duplex scanner. This is a good speed and is on par with other scanners in its price category. The scanner accommodates formats up to A4, so this scanner will be able to cover most of your documents. The resolution is a standard 600dpi optical, more than enough for high-quality photos.

It has a USB 2.0 connection as there’s no wi-fi on the device, unfortunately. But there’s good news, the scanner comes with TWAIN drivers, so you can integrate the device with more scanning applications, not just the ones offered by the manufacturer. When the scanner connects to your computer through USB, no batteries or external power supply is needed because it charges from the computer via the usb cable and via the USB port. This business scanner uses a CIS sensor, but that doesn’t mean it can only scan plain paper, it actually supports literally any type of paper, up to 270gsm. So, business cards, id cards and receipts anything will pas through this portable scanner. .

Features for Productivity

One of the downsides of this scanner is that it doesn’t have duplex scanning. However, it makes up for that through really good speed. As far as image detection and enhancement, it comes with automatic color detection, auto image rotation and automatic image cropping. This means your scans will come out straight, without black borders and correctly orientated. You can just throw them in the scanner feeder and the scanner will do the rest.

This single-sheetfed document scanner comes with a background cleaning feature as well. This is important because for this price, only about 30% of scanners offer background cleaning.

The daily duty cycle is rated by Epson at up to 300 sheets per day. At the current scan speed it would take little over 30 minute of continuous scanning to reach it. .

Quality of images

The automatic deskew feature on the Epson DS-70 will straighten your pages so that you don’t have to. The Epson scanner also comes with OCR included and document management software included. This kind of software helps you organize documents, create flows for them and also mark and label pages.

For portable scanners, you don’t usually get document management software included with the product.

If you want to scan many photos with a portable scanner, our recommendation would be to have a look at the epson fastfoto ff-680w which was designed specifically for that. .

What do real users say?

People like the fact that it’s so light and portable, the fact that you can calibrate it easily that you can charge it via USB and that it has a battery. Also, the fact that you can scan multiple pages into a single PDF and then if you want, you can individually manipulate each page (for example rotate it) is something appreciated. What users don’t like is that the resolution is limited to 300dpi when scanning with the mobile app and the fact that you have to clean it a bit more often. Also, the Wi-fi and the ADF tray, of course are a popular demand. <!–
