What’s so special about it?

Doxie GO SE is a portable document scanner. It has a Li-ion rechargeable battery that can support up to 400 scans per charge. It is very fast – it takes 8 seconds to scan a colored page at 300 dpi. It can scan approximately 7 pages per minute. It comes with an internal 8GB Sd card storage that can store up to 4000 scans. This allows it to be used without being connected to an external storage device such as a computer since it can store the scanned documents. It can create scans in the form of images and PDFs. It can also produce searchable PDFs with advanced Optical Character Recognition (OCR) which is supported by the ABBYY OCR software to go fully paperless and convert paper documents into JPG files and searchable PDF files.

This device is able to scan 7 images per minute. Considering its size, this is a good speed.

It supports several file sizes such as business cards, A4, A5, US Legal, US Letter up to 8.5″ X 30″. This makes the scanner flexible.

With this scanner, you can scan at 300 dpi or 600 dpi. 600 dpi is a very high resolution. You can perform normal scanning with a resolution of 300 dots per inch and it will produce high-quality scans.

It supports USB connections. The USB connection is mainly used for charging the battery. But there is also the SD support. The scanner can save the files on the memory card and then you can connect plug it into card readers. You don’t just charge through the USB cable, you can also use it to transfer the scanned files to your computer via USB like you would in a digital camera. The doxie Go Wifi (A competitor to the Epson Workforce es-500w), Doxie Flip, Doxie Go SE Wifi all have this feature.

It comes with a TWAIN driver interface that makes it compatible with virtually any software. This will ensure that it can be easily integrated into any customized application.

It comes with a Charge Coupled Device (CCD) image sensor. This sensor is considered to be superior since it can scan documents without having perfect contact with the documents. This enables it to clearly scan documents that are crumpled or wavy.

It can scan documents that are as thick as 0.68mm. This is means that it supports thick paper scanning. Therefore, it can easily scan documents that are damaged and produce clear scans.

Features for Productivity

The Doxie scanner does not support duplex scanning. This means that it can only scan one side at a time. This may, therefore, make it unsuitable for large-scale scanning. At this price point, it has competitors like the Fujitsu ScanSnap models.

It comes with automatic color detection. This is a great feature, especially when scanning mixed color documents. It enables the scanner to create great duplicates.

It also comes with automatic image rotation. This feature makes the driver of the scanner decide what is the final layout of the document, so you don’t have to manually switch between portrait or landscape.

Automatic Image cropping is another great feature that comes with this scanner. The scanner automatically detects the size of your document and crops the scan accordingly.

This scanner does not offer background removal. However, It automatically applies automatic contrast to ensure the scanned documents are of a better quality..

Quality of images

This scanner offers automatic deskew. This ensures that documents that were not scanned straight are aligned accordingly.

It, however, does not offer punch hole removal. Therefore, if you scan documents that have punch holes, the punch holes will be visible in the scanned documents. The punch holes may appear black on the scanned documents.

It comes with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) which enables it to create searchable PDF files. This is a great feature, especially when organizing the scanned documents. It is easy to find files and store them appropriately..

This scanner comes with a number of accessories. The custom carrying case is one critical accessory since it protects the scanner from dust and scratches. It also comes with an internal mesh pocket for the USB cable storage.

It does not come with an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Tray. This, however, should not be something to worry about since it can compromise the scanner’s portability and weight.

The Doxie portable scanner is small in size – 12.2 in. x 2.3 in. x 1.75 in. (31 x 5.8 x 4.5 cm). It is small enough to easily fit into a file cabinet. It weighs 1.3 lb. (0.59 kg) only! Complemented with the intelligent design, this is a very intuitive portable scanner.

Doxie claims that this is a portable scanner with rechargeable battery and amazing software. We can confirm that the battery is indeed really good but what about the software? It comes with software such as ABBYY’s Optical Character Recognition (OCR) that supports the creation of searchable PDFs. The Doxie software looks great on the Macbook Pro on which we tested, works on Mac and PC and also comes with Auto Adjust Software that applies smart cropping, deskew, and automatic contrast that ensures the scanned documents have a good scan quality. The Doxie software works with the scanner so that it scans directly to Google Drive and Evernote.

Doxie used to bundle an eyefi card for wifi access but they don’t do that anymore since they sell the wifi version of the scanner..
