As we mentioned previously, the Epson DS-860 may scan only 65 PPM, but it is still a serious contender for the Perfect Documents Scanners category. This scanner comes with a good bundle of software for text recognition and document management. Indeed, the Epson DS-860 has all the software you need for a clean and efficient scanning job. Also, it can scan 130 images per minute and has a Duty Cycle of 6 000 sheets.
This device also has a small footprint, with a size of 8 lbs, that is only beaten by the Epson DS-870.

Most users on Amazon agree that it is a fast and reliable scanner, even if they have experienced a few software issues. Speaking of which, this device features Automatic color detection, Automatic rotation and Blank Page Detection. You will also find MultiStream, Automatic Cropping, Edge Correction and Background Cleaning. Streaks Correction is not available, but it does have Deskew, Hole Punch Removal, Manual Feed Mode, Document Separation, Barcode Recognition, OCR and Zonal OCR.

The ADF Size of 80 sheets will allow you to scan a stack of up to 80 documents without having to feed each one manually into the device. This A4 format scanner has a scanning area of 8.27 in x 11.69 in and a Feed Roller Replacement of 100 000 sheets, like most scanners featured in this article.

The Epson DS-860 features USB 2.0 Type B connectivity with optional Ethernet. For scanners over 60 PPM, USB 3.0 or higher connectivity is usually recommended for best results. As for Ethernet, it is mostly used to connect the scanner to a network, so that multiple users can work at the same time.
You can scan documents up to 120 inches in Long Document Scanning Mode, and the Optical Resolution of this device is 600 DPI.

This 70 PPM device can scan up to 140 images per minute at 600 DPI Optical Resolution and comes with Hi-Speed USB 3.0. The Long Document scanning mode of 236 inches is on par with most scanners we reviewed for this article and so is the weight of approximately 9 lbs.
The Visioneer Patriot H60 has a Daily Duty Cycle of 10 000 sheets, comes with an 120-sheet automatic document feeder ADF to quickly scan large stacks of paper, Feed Roller Replacement is 80 000 sheets and the scanning area is 8.27 in x 11.69 in.
The A4 scanner will automatically trim out the side holes from the final scanned image. This can be useful if you are scanning track paper. This point-and-click device also allows you to scan without any color preset. The Automatic rotation software will save you the trouble of manually deciding if you need to scan in portrait or landscape mode.
Some other time saving features we can find on this model are Blank Page Detection, MultiStream, Background Cleaning, Edge Correction and OCR. The latter takes each image and creates a searchable document, mostly in PDF or Word. OCR can also be used to create Excel files, eBooks etc.
If you need to feed the paper manually, for thin and fragile documents, or even thicker ones, you can activate the Manual Feed Mode.

The Xerox DocuMate 6460 has a scan speed of 70 PPM / 120 IPM and 10 000 pages Daily Duty Cycle. It weighs 9.2 lbs and the Optical Resolution of this A4 document scanner is 600 DPI, which is quite standard, but not the best you can find. However, all the scanners we reviewed for this article feature the same Optical Resolution.
Hi-Speed USB 3.0 + USB 2.0 compatible connectivity will allow quick data transmission, especially on a scanner that is faster than 60 PPM. The Feed Roller Replacement of 400 000 sheets makes it 4 times cheaper than most scanners we talk about in this article.
As for the software you would usually look for in a document scanner, it does not have MultiStream, Hole Punch Removal, Document Separation, Zonal OCR or Streaks Correction. It still has other image enhancement features such as Automatic color detection and
Automatic rotation, as well as Blank Page Detection, Automatic Cropping, Edge Correction, Background Cleaning, Deskew, Barcode Recognition, Manual Feed Mode and OCR. The Xerox 6460 remains an efficient high-volume scanner that is easy to use and install.

The 65 PPM scanner has a high-volume sheet-feed of 100 sheets. The Daily Duty Cycle of 7,000 sheets is a little less than most scanners featured in this article, but the A4 format scanner has a Long Document scanning mode of 240 inches. The Epson DS-870 comes with SuperSpeed USB 3.0
connectivity, but Ethernet is optional. This device can scan 130 pages per minute at 600 DPI Optical Resolution. Like most scanners that we
feature in this article, this device has a Feed Roller Replacement of 100 000 documents scanned. The Scanning area of 8.27 in x 11.69 in is also on par with its competitors. However, the Epson DS-870 boasts a smaller footprint than most, at 7.9 lbs only. Let’s take a look at the software package. Automatic rotation: check. Blank Page Detection: check. MultiStream: check. Automatic Cropping: check. The scanner also has Edge Correction and Background Cleaning as well as Deskew, Document Separation and Hole Punch Removal. OCR and Zonal OCR are also included, and should you need to manually feed your documents, the option is available. It does not have Streaks Correction though.

The Alaris Kodak i2820 will scan 140 images per minute at a resolution of 600 DPI. This A4 format scanner can hold up to 100 sheets and it has a Daily Duty Cycle of 8 000 sheets, while the Feed Roller Replacement is 250 000 sheets. All the image enhancement software present on the competitor models reviewed here are available. It even features Streaks Correction. The weight of 12 lbs, which makes it the heaviest scanner featured in this article, is compensated by the compact design of the Alaris Kodak i2820. This scanner is not the best choice for long documents as it only goes up to 33.98 inches. The device has a scanning area of 8.27 in x 11.69 in and it features duplex scanning. We would recommend this scanner for heavy-duty scanning or medium-sized offices.

If you are looking for a reliable, robust and fast scanner, you now have a better idea of which model could best suit your needs.
