The Vupoint ST470 is the smalles portable scanner the manufacturer is currently offering.

It is an A4, 1200dpi portable document scanner, which runs on an USB 2.0 and a native driver interface. Although it is listed as an A4 scanner, this Vupoint can scan documents as long as 125 inches.

The sensor it is working on is a CIS sensor, helping it achieve the optical resolution of 600dpi and 1200dpi interpolated.

Currently, you can only run plain paper through this device, although you can also successfully run slightly thicker or thinner documents at the same time.

One important aspect this device is missing is the duplex feature. Therefore, you will have to get each 2 sided document run through the scanner separately.

Regarding the productivity aspects, the VuPoint St470 offers both automatic color detection and automatic cropping. At the same time, key elements such as automatic image rotation or deskew are not featured.

One thing this scanner offers is the OCR feature, through the Abbyy Finereader software that comes included with every device purchase. I would have loved to have the background removal available, as this would have definitely helped with the OCR accuracy.

The VuPoint Magic Wand is definitely the flagship model of this manufacturer. It boasts significantly better specs than the rest of the products available from VuPoint.

We will start with the scanning speed. This will go up to 40 images per minute, which in this class of scanners is very impressive, I must admit. Although the settings of the images must be really low, to achieve that kind of scanning speed.

It will also accept more or less standard paper, with some slight differences that could work, for example a tin card stock.

Automatic color detection is standard, as you would expect, and so is the image cropping in auto mode. Again, the lack of duplex might annoy you from time to time.

One key aspect that is also missing is the ADF tray. Yes, the scanner does not feature one. The way this scanner works makes it hard to integrate one, so if you really want an ADF, you’ll have to go for another scanner.

The scanner is designed with buttons, to control and move through the settings, and also a small little screen, where you an check the options selected, number of scans, and other details that might help you in the process.

One key aspect that could go unnoticed for some people is just how small and light the scanner is. It’s barely half a pound, which makes a top performer in this sense.

The VuPoint InstaScan Pro is built differently compared to the Magic Wand. It features a pass through system, therefore the scanner does not go over the paper.

It’s still an A4 scanner, with a resolution of 1200dpi and fitted with a CIS sensor.

One thing that’s innovative is the connection. Besides the standard USB transfer, you can also connect to the native driver interface through Wi-Fi. This makes it much more accessible in many situations.

Again, as with other VUPOINT scanners, they are missing some key features, such as the automatic rotation of the image and Background Removal. Also, deskew is not available, which makes it difficult to get perfectly straight scanned documents.

The scanner does however feature image cropping and that is done automatically. It’s good to have this feature, as the image coming out is not larger than it should be. Another good feature that the scanner has is the automatic color detection, because you don’t want to scan in color when documents are not in color.

Last but not least, the VuPoint InstaScan Pro comes with an OCR feature, which converts scanned images to PDF searchable or Microsoft Word.

Which is the best Vupoint scanner currently on the market?

The Vupoint MagicWand is the best scanner this manufacturer currently offers. It has a really high scanning speed, a low weight and it offers a very good scanning quality. OCR comes as standard, but we would have loved to have a couple of features to compliment the OCR, such as the background removal or deskew.

Besides these, the scanner offers basic settings, such as automatic color detection or automatic cropping. All in all, a very good device, if you have set your sights on buying a VuPoint scanner.

The other 2 scanning solutions are also good, if you insist to buy Vupoint scanners. They are on the cheaper end of the spectrum and offer quite decent scanning features for the money. Especially the InstaScan Pro, which is available with the Wifi connection.

Let us know which of these 3 is the best Vupoint scanner for you or for your needs!
