The Kodak Alaris S2050 is part of the A4 lineup of scanners that have come out with the rebranded Alaris name.

It’s a small 50 pages a minute document scanner that offers a lot of the advantages that more expensive scanners offer. For example, it uses a USB 3.1 connection, which allows you to transfer documents much more quickly.

Alaris estimates this scanner at around 5000 sheets on a daily basis. This duty cycle is the maximum estimation, you won’t be putting in this number of scans very often.

To achieve better cost per page for its users, this Kodak scanning device was fitted with a consumable roller kit that should last around 250000 sheets in normal usage. This is quite a lot, especially for a scanner on the lower end of the scale.

In regards to the software, the scanner will work through the Alaris Smart Touch software, which is a shortcut based express scanning software. For more advanced users, we recommend the Alaris Capture Pro LE or if you integrate the scanner into a larger workflow, you can try the paid version.

If you like this Kodak Document Scanner but you wish it were a network scanner, Kodak has the 2060W.

The Alaris Kodak i2420 is part of the old guard of Kodak scanners, before the company was rebranded as Alaris. This should be a good scanner for light office use or even at home.

The scanning speed is definitely on the low side on this color duplex scanner, at around 40 pages per minute in simplex mode. It offers automatic duplex, therefore you can use to capture both sides of a page through a single pass. You can scan up to 5,000 pages per day with this scanner and it is still within parameters.

One of the interesting things about the Kodak scanners in general is the driver. It works both on Twain and ISIS interfaces, but it offers a lot of interesting features, most of them available through the entire range, with the Perfect Page technology.

This device also features a scanner consumable kit that should last around 250.000 sheets. Actually through the entire Kodak Alaris range this seems to be a common theme, as they tend to use the same roller kits for more scanners.

The included capture software comes with several automatic image processing features to improve the image quality without manual work like automatic cropping, background cleaning and several others. The standard kodak document imaging software included with the product is Alaris Capture Pro Limited Edition, Smart Touch, Nuance PaperPort and OmniPage software.

It’s good to have that, as it allows you to stock only 1 type of consumables for different models of scanners, newer or older. You will definitely save time and money by not having to stock more types of rollers, and always check what the status of these are.

This scanner is great for office tasks like accounts payable processing, processing forms for customer onboarding

The Alaris Kodak I2900 is one of the best Kodak scanners on the market that can achieve 60 pages every minute, when scanning in simplex. It is part of the i2000 series scanner line.

With an optical resolution of 600dpi, and a CCD sensor fitted to it, this will allow you to achieve really good scanning results, especially when compared to a CIS scanner.

One of the interesting things this Kodak production scanner offers is the integrated A4 flatbed unit. Practically it allows you to swithc between the ADF and the flatbed scanner quite quickly, without having to stop the batch, export the files, restart the batch and so on.

As you already know this, we are big fans of desktop document scanners with an integrated flatbed unit. Especially when you use the scanner with the Kodak Capture desktop software, this should allow for really good document indexation.

On the flatbed unit, you can scan just about anything that will not pass through the automatic feeding unit. This includes thicker covers, very thin documents or even fragile paper sheets, which might be affected when carried at full speed. It also has a multifeed detection system in the ADF. Kodak call it Intelligent Document Protection.

This Kodak production document scanner is definitely on the heavy side though. At 35 lbs it’s by far the heaviest of the 4. But you can’t find a scanner with integrated flatbed that is not heavy.

The i3000 series scanners, i4000 production series, i5000 series are Kodak’s line of production scanners built for business solutions which require fast scanning tasks like mass forms processing, mailroom automation and records management. The top of the line models are the i5650 scanner and the i5850s scanner, both designed specifically for industry solutions for information capture. You can buy a special repair and maintenance contract for them for fast replacing of parts.

The Kodak Alaris S2040 is slowly but surely replacing the I2420. It is cheaper than the old model, but it offers the same scanning specs, with some of them improved.

While the scanning speed of this Kodak Alaris scanner is more or less identical, the optical resolution goes up to 1200dpi with this model. Surely, you will never scan at this resolution, but for example when you need a scan of real high resolution for a reason or another, you can use this function.

Then there is the connectivity of this desktop scanners. This has a high speed USB 3.1, which means that even when scanning larger resolution documents or files with less compression, the transfer speeds should be there or there abouts.

One of the things that is slightly increased is the ADF size. It’s only by 5 pages, but even so, an 80 sheet ADF should be ok for such a small scanner. The scanner software is included but it doesn’t come in the package, you download it from the web: Alaris Capture Pro Software Limited Edition.

Besides those, this scanner can also be integrated with the Alaris Capture Pro LE or if you buy the full version, the Alaris Capture Professional.

Always pay great care when buying this document scanning software. This is sold specifically for your type of scanner. If someone is selling it for way less, that type of software may not work with your device, so please pay great attention. The device is energy star certified so it will not hurt the environment health

Which is the best Kodak scanner?

Well, from our point of view, out of the more affordable Alaris Kodak scanners you can get, the Kodak Alaris S2050 seems to be the most attractive. It has a really good scanning speed considering the price. It’s not the highest, but it will definitely do.

Second, we love that it comes with the Perfect Page technology, which means a lot of features that are available in higher end scanners will be available with this scanner by using the integrated scanner driver. As a bonus, it comes with USB 3.1 which means the transfer speed for the files is also quite fast.

An honorable mention if you need an ADF flatbed combo is the Alaris Kodak i2900 scanner. This comes with a 60 pages per minute automatic document feeder that scans duplex through a single pass. Not to mention the fact that that switching between the two types of scanning gives us great flexibility during the scanning process.

All these scanners from Alaris Kodak are great choices, so no matter which one you choose, you won’t go wrong.
