Alaris Kodak i3300 Review | Would your project suit this scanner?

The Alaris Kodak i3300 is the model that fits right in the middle of the i3xxx scanner series

It will reach a scanning speed of around 70 pages per minute and is capable of processing over 20.000 documents on a daily basis

I guess it all depends on what you need from a scanner, but it’s nice seeing Alaris Kodak offering choices when it comes to speed and price.

It’s always a nice thing to have colored documents detected automatically. A Alaris Kodak i3300 offers this function as standard through its driver.

I can’t imagine running a scanner without the Blank document removal . This setting is mandatory on just about any machine and it is available on the Alaris Kodak i3300.

Quality of images

Remember the time when you had to use photoshop for scans? Especially on the Alaris Kodak i3300 the Background Cleaning is an image enhancement feature you should use.

The Image Edge Fill helps you by cleaning your scanned scanned documents.

When you have bad quality paper going through the Alaris Kodak i3300, just keep the Skew Reduction box active and you should have perfectly alligned pages.

Black dots on the side of the document? Tick the Perforated Page Correction box and your Alaris Kodak i3300 scanner will fill them automatically.

Should you have the Streaks Detection function always turned on? Especially for text documents I recommend you leave it on.


Extra Features

Sometimes I prefer enabling the Manual Feed Mode from the driver, to make sure the Alaris Kodak i3300 will process older documents safely.

I’ve started indexing through Barcode Recognition for some time now, most often using QR codes. This scanner has Barcode Recognition , but check if it’s optional or standard.

Auto Separation is one of those features I really like playing with. Currently, for Auto Separation I still find patch codes reliable.

I can’t imagine this scanner without the OCR setting, as I tend to use it quite a lot these days.

The Zonal OCR is very popular with users and comes as standard on the Alaris Kodak i3300 scanner.

But which scanner can scan a larger area? The Scansnap ix500. It can scan a dimension of A4 – 216 x 360 mm (8.5 x 14.17 in.) meanwhile the other one is only able to scan an area of 11.69 in x 16.54 in.

A lot of times a digitization equipment that has a CCD sensor, will deliver the the optimum results. In this case, the Alaris Kodak i3300 works with a CCD sensor, and the Scansnap ix500 is operated using a CIS sensor.

Regarding of which device is able to scan super-long documents, it’s the Scansnap ix500 which shows up as a clear winner in this respect. It can scan scan sheets of paper of up to 863 mm or 34 in.
