The Kodak Alaris S2060w cordless sheetfed scanner will convert an A4 document easily or a page that is up to 8.27 in x 11.69 inches in size. 

Alaris has done a great job with the sensor and it will definitely work well at an optical resolution of 600dpi.

Connection wise you can use this equipment through USB 3.1, Ethernet LAN and Wifi. At the same time, the drivers will work through Isis and Twain, and of course a Windows Image Aquisition protocol.

For normal media type paper, you can expect a scanning speed of around 60 pages when in simplex mode and 120 images when running in duplex mode.

The daily duty cycle should be around 7000 pages per day, but in reality, it might be a bit difficult to achieve that constantly.

This scanners roller kit will handle around 200.000 pages before it will start to make issues or need replacing. 

Specs for paper handling

Alaris has fitted this scanner with both an ultrasonic sensor and a length detection setting to prevent any double feeds from happening. Once it detects an overlapping page, this will be halfway out in the output tray and the scanning is stopped. 

With a normal media type, the automatic document feeder should hold around 80 pages.

The variety of paper this scanner can handle is quite big, considering that in terms of thickness it ranges from 7 to 160 lb.

In the long document mode, you should be able to process sheets that are around 160 inches in length.

This equipment has a size of 12 x 7 x 7 inches and this excludes the flatbed accessory.

The Kodak Alaris S2060W weighs around 7.2 lbs which is on the light side of things and you can expect to move the equipment around easily.

Alaris Smart Touch and Alaris Capture Pro Software Limited Edition (through web download) are both standard software for this device. The Capture Pro software can be the first step to advanced document management as the quality and data accuracy that it collects are second to none.

Features for Productivity

The auto-crop comes as standard and it will allow the scanner to detect the exact sheet size, without you having to manually input it.

Then there is the automatic rotation of images. As you already know this calculates how the images should be oriented and applies that correction. 

Auto color detection is a great option as it lets you sort your documents physically and run them in a single batch. The scanner will calculate how each image should be outputted, whether in color or bitonal.

Another solution you can use is the multi-stream setting, which can create both a black and white version and a color version of the same batch. 

Blank page detection will identify which pages are empty and it can delete them automatically without having the user to understand it.

Quality of images

With the background removal, the solution takes each image, cleans and homogenizes its background. 

There is also an edge correction feature to clean the margins of the documents so they are always of the highest quality. 

Deskew is standard and so it should be. In case documents are not fed very well, you need something to correct it and prevent any rescans. 

One thing that really helps any operator is the punch hole removal setting. It’s a nice feature to have when you want to output really clean images. 

Reducing the streaks or filtering them is not possible, as this feature is not present in the driver. 

Extra Features

For old or fragile documents the manual feed function should be chosen. Yes, it’s slower, but you can be sure it will feed your documents correctly. 

Barcode recognition can be used for separation and indexing. To separate documents automatically you can also use white pages or patch code sheets. 

For indexing, barcodes are really nice, especially QR codes. If you combine QR codes with zonal OCR, you will be able to collect huge amounts of data very very quickly.

Normal optical character recognition is possible and depending on the scanning settings it should provide very good results.
