The Epson V19 is another fantastic 1200 DPI Flatbed Scanner. Of course this model can output more than 1200 DPI too, like the CanoScan 300, but its maximum pixel density is 4800 dots per inch. This scanner is A4 format as well and it can connect to your Windows PC and Mac through its USB 2.0 port. It uses that same USB port to power itself without the use of a separate AC adapter. The color depth of the CIS sensor is 48-bit for color and 16-bit for when you scan in grayscale and the scanner uses LED technology. This scanner has an approximate speed of 6 Pages Per Minute if you are quick enough when changing documents between scans.

The lid on the scanner is removable so that you can scan books with it. Here is the list of software that is included with the scanner: Epson Scan with Easy Photo Fix technology, Epson Event Manager, Epson Copy Utility, Epson Easy Photo Scan. The Epson Easy Photo Fix technology is the one with the ICE features: it can automatically remove dust and scratch marks off the photos. It can also automatically adjust the orientation of your photos, regardless of how you placed them on the scanning glass. It can automatically deskew them if they hava a slight skew of up to 10 degrees or so.

The Easy Photo Scan is also the software that automatically syncs your photos with Google Drive, Evernote, Dropbox and Facebook. It is compatible with both major operating systems, Windows and Mac OS on 32-bit and 64-bit. The only problems that seem to appear on Windows 10 is that the front buttons don’t seem to work. You don’t need them as you can do everything from the computer. Users seem to be generally happy with the scanner with a 4/5 rating on Amazon.

This Canon Lide 300 is the first 1200 DPI Flatbed Scanner that we are reviewing. It has a maximum optical resolution of 2400 dpi. You can its interpolation and take it up to 19200 dpi but that is just plain useless because you don’t get any extra detail after you have reached its optical limit. This scanner uses a CIS (Contact Image Sensor) to achieve this resolution. We usually prefer CCD sensors as in our tests, they have proven to be superior in color reproduction and dynamic range. It has a 48-bit color depth when you scan in color and a 16-bit color depth when you do the same thing in grayscale.

This flatbed scanner can scan an A4 page at a resolution of 600 dpi in 10 seconds, so realistically you are going to be able to scan 4-5 pages per minute, including the time needed to take the paper out and put another back in. You can connect the device to your Windows PC or Mac using the integrated USB 2.0 port. This scanner is also powered by that same USB port, there is no extra ac adapter. The included software that comes with the scanner has all the ICE features that you need: It will automatically detect the scanning mode so that you don’t have to keep switching back and forth between selecting color scanning and black & white scanning. It can also adjust the orientation of your photos automatically and also crop the black area around the photo, if it is smaller than the scanning glass. It also deskews the image, even if it is skewed by up to around 10 degrees.

Here are the apps that come bundled with the scanner: IJ Scan Utility (Windows) / IJ Scan Utility Lite (Mac) Auto Scan, Document Scan, Photo Scan, Custom Scan, Stitch Scan, and OCR (Optical Character Recognition), ScanGear MP Driver, Quick Menu. With this software you also get integration with cloud storage services like DropBox, Google Drive, Evernote and OneDrive.

It does not have support for digitizing film negatives or slides. It is fully compatible with Windows 10 64-bit and Mac OS.

The Canon CanoScan Lide 400 is a bit ahead of the Canon 300 especially in terms of image resolution. It has an optical resolution of 4800 dpi compared to the 2400 dpi that you get on the Canon 300. Also, it has the new USB Type-C connector that every computer peripheral uses now. This scanner is also faster than the 300, with a scanning speed of just 8 seconds / page at 300 dpi. It also has a CIS sensor and at this point I need to point out the fundamental flaw with CIS sensors versus CCD sensors: The paper needs to be in perfect contact with the scanning glass. Any deviation more than 1mm will result in disaster.

It has a Z-lid that helps you a bit more with scanning books and other thick materials. Canon also provides a stand for it, so that you can lift it up and make it take less space on your desk. It is also powered by the same USB port that it uses for data transfer.

This scanner has all the ICE features that you need, exactly like the 300. The scanner can detect if you put the photos facing the right way and adjust that. It will adjust the color mode accordingly and also remove dust and scratch marks from the photos. It has a bit of a problem with paper that is not white as the software does not always apply the necessary white balance correction.

What is the best 600 dpi flatbed scanner?

As far as features go, our choice is the Canon CanoScan Lide 400. As far as value for money goes, it’s the Epson V19 as the clear winner in this comparison.
