Xerox 4799 | Review, specs and features

The good: 224 images / minute, 350-page ADF tray, 3 double-feed sensors, good OCR, this Xerox DocuMate 4799 scanner has it all

The bad: Well, these features come at a price. Not the cheapest scanner

Is it worth buying? If you have to scan thousands of pages per day, yes. How much does it cost now?

Xerox 4799 Datasheet Explained

You can digitize a document with a maximum area of 11.69 x 16.53 in.

A scanner like the Xerox 4799, reaches an optical resolution of 600.

A scanner such as this, is working using a CIS sensor.

Hi-Speed USB 2.0 (USB 1.1 compatible) is what this equipment can be connected with .

Sheets per minute in simplex mode will be aproximately 112.

If you try the duplex scanning mode, 224 Documents per minute in duplex mode should be possible in optimum conditions

Maybe you’ll be surprised to hear that this scanner is optimized for an average Duty cycle of 40000 pages daily.

Regarding the interface, you will should know that the device works on Twain, Wia and Isis.

If you need to do roller replacement, then probably they have gone through about 600.000 sheets.

Specs for paper handling

Multifeed Detection is a standard feature, with a high quality Yes to prevent any possible problems.

If you look at the the ADF capacity of this scanner, you will notice that it can hold 350 pages .

The maximum Document thickness that the Xerox 4799 can process is around 5 lb. to 42 lb..

If you have a document that is 100 in long, the Xerox 4799 will scan it.

Xerox 4799 accesories unboxing

The Xerox 4799 has a dimmension of 18.7 x 23 x 13 inches.

The Xerox 4799 weighs somewhere around 55.1 lbs. This value doesn’t account for any other extra items that can be applied to the device.

In the box you will see the delivered software: Visioneer Acuity, Visioneer OneTouch, ABBYY FineReader Sprint, Kofax VRS Professional.

Features for Productivity

Your batch of documents has different sized documents? The Automtic Page Size Detection will sort that for you.

You should use the Auto Image Rotate for non specific orientation. The Xerox 4799 has such a setting and you can set it up in the driver.

One feature I enjoy in the Xerox 4799 and other machines, is the Auto Color . Try it, and it will definitely change your life.

You have probably heard of the White page detection setting. Well, it will be available with this scanner so we recommend you enable it.

As you’d imagine, the Dual stream scanning is featured in the Xerox 4799 driver settings. It can be a life saver some of the times.

Quality of images

With the Xerox 4799 you can expect perfectly clean documents. Just enable the Smooth Background and let it do its magic.

Have you tried using the Edge Correction for images? If it works correctly for pictures, then keep it enabled on the Xerox 4799 permanently.

Deskew document can be done by enabling this setting in the scanner driver. It will only conflict with other special settings on the Xerox 4799 scanner from time to time, so keep it on.

When was the last time you had Perforated Page Correction turned off? Personally, I can’t remember when that was.

I preffer using Streaks Removal on documents with writing only, but the scanner here does not have this option.

Extra Features

Sometimes I prefer enabling the Manual Feeding from the driver, to make sure the Xerox 4799 will process older documents safely.

Although the Bar Code Discovery isn’t the only separation method, I recommend you get it.

Auto Separation is one of those features I really like playing with. Currently, for Auto Separation I still find patch codes reliable.

It’s safe to say that Optical Character Recognition is something no scanner should miss. Scanning is not possible without it today.

The OCR Predefined Zone is very popular with users and comes as standard on the Xerox 4799 scanner.
