What’s so special about it?

The DS-620 Document Scanner is lightweight and compact scanner for your documents, ID cards, and business cards. It has a resolution of 600dpi and it can scan up to 8 images per minute. It can scan news articles, school papers, and written notes, business cards, and plastic ID cards with high precision. It’s powered through a USB Cable and it’s quite compact at 11.5 inches in length and less than 1 pound of weight. This scanner is good for professionals who are usually on the go. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) feature offered in this device. It converts scanned images into searchable PDF or Word files. This feature can also be used to create more complex files such as Excel sheets. With TWAIN and SANE interface and latest software installed on this scanner, it provides instant and stable connections with the latest smart devices and custom scanning apps. You get a warranty of 1 year along with 24/7 free online technical support offered to resolve product-related issues for the smooth functioning of your product.

Brother DS-620 Datasheet Explained

This scanner can digitize 8 pages per minute. That’s half the speed of other scanners for this price, but with portable scanners speed is not that important because usually the volume of documents that you need to scan is small. Speed is more important with larger document scanners.

It’s an A4 scanner that offers 600dpi. That’s plenty of pixels for OCR and high-quality photographs. It has a USB 2.0 connection, no wi-fi, but with scanners in this price range, most don’t have wi-fi.

It has TWAIN and SANE interfaces so you can integrate it with more custom apps or ecosystems should you need to and it uses a CIS sensor. The range of thickness is so and so, from 60gsm to 100gsm. That should cover most of the documents out there, but the thick ones might be an issue. A business card is usually 250gsm+. .

Features for Productivity

This scanner doesn’t scan duplex. So if the paper is printed on both sides, you have to run it through the scanner 2 times. In this price range, it’s not a minus as only half the scanners have this.

It doesn’t come with automatic color detection, image rotation, image cropping, nor background removal. This will slow you down a bit as you might have to do some extra tasks if you want your images to look right. So you will have to manually rotate the image or crop it.

.

Quality of images

This scanner also comes with a deskew feature which is quite useful. It straightens the image according to the top edge of the page. There’s no punch hole removal feature though.

OCR is included but it’s not very good. I would more likely recommend the OCR from ABBYY that comes bundled with Fujitsu scanners. It’s important to have good OCR. .

Brother DS-620 accesories unboxing

This scanner doesn’t have an ADF tray. At this price, about half the scanners on the market have one. I have to say this is a clear minus for me. I can’t live without the Automatic Document Feeder on a scanner. You just throw the sheets in there, the scanner works it’s magic and you’ve got all your scans in minutes.

This scanner is very very light. Most scanners that have this price weigh in at 1.1 lbs whereas this one weighs just 0.88 lbs. So this is a very light scanner. The same with the dimensions, this is a very compact device.

It comes with a bundle of software like Nuance PaperPort 12, Presto PageManager, BizCard 6, etc. Not everything in there is going to be useful, so you will have to find out for yourself what works for you..

What do real users say?

People who bought this product are happy with optimized scans with adjustable brightness and contrast option. They also like the scanning speed even if it’s not the fastest scanner by any means. They found it to be easy to operate, but some small details seem to be weird, for example placing the power cord underneath the place where the paper comes out. That means the cable sometimes might mess with the sheets of paper. The deskew feature seems to be popular with users as well, especially since you have to manually feed in the paper, you don’t have to worry about perfectly aligning it. <!–
