Alaris Kodak i3500 Datasheet Explained
With the Kodak Alaris i3500, you can scan an area of 11.69 in x 16.54 in. This is a bit bigger than an A3 and is identical to other scanners from the I3000 series.
Scanning documents at an optical resolution of 1200DPI should be possible with this scanner, although you will never do this in real life. Especially for jobs scanned through the smart touch scanning software, which are mostly rush single scans.
The sensor installed in this document scanner is CCD, just like with most medium and high-end Alaris scanners.
To make sure data goes through quickly, such scanning equipment is connected using USB 3.0, providing reliable and speedy transfer times.
The Alaris i3500 has a really high scanning speed, reaching 110 pages per minute in simplex and 220 images per minute in duplex.
Maybe you’ll be surprised to hear but this scanner is optimized for an average Duty cycle of 25,000 pages daily. This puts it in the low-end production category of scanners.
If you check the driver interface, you will notice that this equipment works on Twain, ISIS, and also WIA drivers through the windows image acquisition interface.
You can expect the feeding tires to process about 300.000 normal pages before they let go. I think that for this type of scanner this is quite a decent amount.
Specs for paper handling
To prevent double feeding, this equipment uses an Overlap detection (Ultrasonic sensor), and it also has Length detection for proper Multifeed control. These sensors also prevent jams or misfeeds from time to time, so it’s good to know something is actively protecting our documents.
The ADF input tray has a capacity of around 300 sheets. I would have loved it to be around 500, but I guess users of this scanner will not have large batches.
This Alaris Kodak i3500 scanner will process a maximum Document thickness of 9 to 110 lb.
It’s good news that this device has a long page mode, that allows us to scan documents of up to 160 inches.
Alaris Kodak i3500 accessories unboxing
The equipment has a size of 9 x 17 x 17 inches.
The Alaris Kodak i3500 has a weight of about 35 lbs. This weight doesn’t account for any other extra items that can be applied to the equipment.
Talking of extra features you can have an A4 or A3 size flatbed accessory ( legal-size flatbed accessory in the USA ) which are optional extras. These are available also on other i3000 series scanners but also for example for the Kodak i2900 model.
In the box, you will find the included software: Alaris Capture Pro Software Limited Edition, Mac, Linux Drivers and Wia drivers as a download.
The Alaris Capture solution is actually a really interesting software that is sold extra and can be used on Kodak and non-Kodak Alaris scanners. It has software assurance for 1 year included but you can renew each year.
Features for Productivity
For mixed-size documents, I usually set maximum size and let the Automatic Cropping do its job.
I like the Auto Image Rotate for documents that are not homogenous when it comes to orientation. A mix of portrait and landscape documents will be handled by the Auto Image Rotate mode.
One feature I enjoy in the Alaris Kodak i3500 and other machines is the Automatic Color Detection. This automatically scans documents based on whether they’re color or black and white.
You have probably heard of the White page detection setting. Well, it will be available with this scanner so we recommend you enable it.
As you’d imagine, the MultiStream is featured in the Alaris Kodak i3500 driver settings. It can be a lifesaver some of the time.
Quality of images
The Smooth Background is a must-have feature with any scanner and the Alaris Kodak i3500 scanner has it as standard.
Have you tried using the Edge Correction for images? If it works correctly for pictures, then keep it enabled on the Alaris Kodak i3500 permanently.
Document Alignment can be done by enabling this setting in the scanner driver. It will only conflict with other special settings on the Alaris Kodak i3500 scanner from time to time, so keep it on.
When was the last time you had Correct Punched Holes turned off? Personally, I can’t remember when that was.
Let’s be honest, keeping the Alaris Kodak i3500 perfectly clean all the time can be challenging. The Streaks Filtering setting optimizes scanning results between cleaning cycles.
Extra Features
How good is the Alaris Kodak i3500 for crumpled documents? Just turn on the Feed Paper Manually and check for yourself!
Check if your scanner comes with free Barcode Detection. If not, buy this option or get another scanner who has it.
Are you currently using the Separate Documents Automatically? I really encourage you to try Separate Documents Automatically with QR codes as it provides the highest accuracy in the automatic separation process.
I can’t imagine this scanner without the Optical Character Recognition setting, as I tend to use it quite a lot these days.
Have you worked with Field OCR indexing? Try it for forms processing, as especially for standardized forms it should work really well.
