The Epson ES-500W is an interesting little wifi document scanner. It is definitely an entry level machine as it comes with a scanning speed of around 35ppm. It has a duplex function, and this allows it to scan 70 images per minute when running it in duplex mode.

The estimated daily scanning capacity goes up to around 4000 sheets. Considering what it was built for, and the low purchase price, this is quite a large volume I must say. I wonder how quickly the rollers would start jamming running at this constant cycle every day. The auto document feeder ADF capacity is for 50 sheets which is on par with the other wifi document scanners here.

Last but not least we have the connectivity. It runs on a Wifi to transfer the files but at the same time, it also works on USB 3.0. This means that you can instantly turn this device into a desktop scanner and use it on a dedicated computer.

Raven Pro Document Scanner

Raven Pro Document Scanner

The Raven Pro Document Scanner is the more advanced wifi document scanner out of the Raven family of scanners. The Original Document Scanner was the first model to come out of the manufacturer, and it had really good reviews.

This new compact desktop scanner has many more features and improved specs. For example, it has really fast scanning speeds at around 60PPM when you use the simplex mode. Double that when you use the duplex mode and this will turn quite into a fast device.

Those 2 features that are really famous for this wireless high-speed scanner though are the large touchscreen and the wireless connectivity. There is a little format problem: the device scans to PDF and only PDF at the moment. However the Raven team started working on implementing JPEG support at the beginning of 2020.

First of all we have the large touchscreen. This comes really handy, considering that we will use this scanner without a PC connected to it, just as your typical digital sender.

Then there’s the Wifi networking. Again, the wireless connectivity with a 2.4ghz band really helps not to attach a computer to it, and scan directly to mobile devices or wireless networks. This is a document scanner for PC and Mac and Raven provides drivers for both on their website. You can connect the Raven to your Android smartphone or iPhone through wifi direct and use the Raven app to download the scans.

I think this Fujitsu Scansnap IX1500 wifi document scanner is not only the most popular document scanner with wifi, but also one of the most popular document scanners out there.

We love this model, as it is an evolution over the previous model, the IX500, which was already a really good wifi scanner. It has a touchscreen, but it’s not as big as the one on the Raven.

The bundled software that it has, makes it quite a good office scanner. With software like Scansnap Home, Abby Express for Optical Character Recognition and some solutions from Nuance, you can achieve a lot of productivity and really turn your office into a digital office.

To take advantage of the software bundle, you will sometimes have to use the scanner as a dedicated device, sometimes even through USB. The Wifi connectivity is usually designed for digital senders, not for the direct connection of a scanner to a PC. The scanned files can be saved in PDF, Searchable PDF and JPEG.

Then there is the price aspect. This scanner is under 500 dollars, and in some cases even 20% below that, which is great for such specifications. If you also add extra coverage, you can be sure that if something does go wrong with it, Fujitsu will take care of it.

This color desktop scanner has a scanning speed of 30 PPM Color and Black & White. If you are looking for a portable scanner from Fujitsu, we recommend the fujitsu scansnap ix100 and fujitsu scansnap s1300i.

The Epson Workforce DS-575W is a wifi document scanner that is not really different compared to the two models above, but it has an interesting optional feature. Besides your standard wifi connectivity, it can be fitted optionally with an Ethernet connection.

Yes, while you can take advantage of the IEEE 802.11 Wifi capabilities, this can also work inside the WLAN network of your company, for a more private scanning facility.

The rest of the features of this color scanner pretty average, with a scanning speed of 35 pages per minute when using simplex and double that when scanning duplex. It has an optical resolution of 600 DPI so it is a good photo and document scanner. We recommend using 600 only for photo scanning and 300 Dots Per Inch for office documents. If you use the 600 dpi resolution, even the smallest details should be clearly visible on computer monitors.

It has a daily duty cycle of around 4000 sheets, which is fairly decent, especially in this price range and compared to the Fujitsu IX1500 which capacity is 10 times less. The automatic document feeder ADF capacity is 50 sheets. It can scan any document that is A4, A5 and smaller. It also has a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connection and cable included.

We really like that they have added the Abbyy Finereader sprint to this color document scanner. Yes, while it would have helped to have the standard Finereader, the Sprint version is more or less an express software, with less features but capable of providing really good OCR and a variety of file formats as well.

The document scanning software that comes with this wireless color scanner consists of: Epson Scan 2, Epson Document Capture, ABBYY FineReader Sprint, NewSoft Presto! BizCard OCR, EMC ISIS. You can also download the Epson Scansmart app from the manufacturer website. The main scanning app has some key features that separate it from the pack like a Barcode Scanner feature and Zonal OCR. With the bar code feature, the scanner can read and interpret any bar code on the scanned image. The information can then be saved as metadata or used to separate batches of documents. The scanning app is compatible with all versions of Windows starting from Windows 7 64-bit SP1 up to Windows 10.

If you want a portable version of the scanner, have a look at the workforce ES-60w wireless portable scanner.

Last but not least we have the Brother ADS-2700W wifi document scanner. Just like the other scanners in our test, this is an A4 format scanner.

The speed of this color duplex document scanner is around 35ppm when you choose the simplex mode, and when scanning both sides in duplex scan mode, it will be 70 images per minute. It has a scanning resolution of 600 DPI color and black & white. 600 is perfect for scanning photos but for documents, it is good practice to use 300 dpi optical resolution because of the much smaller file size. If you are going to scan everything in 600 dpi then be prepared to have some external hard-drives at hand as the storage space on your hard-disk will fill up very quickly.

It was built for around 3000 sheets on a daily basis and the ADF input capacity is up to 50 sheets. As you know, reaching this means using the scanner all the time, which I must say is not recommended, as this scanner was built for occasional scanning. While the variety of paper sizes isn’t something special, the variety of media types that the scanner accepts is. You can run id cards, business cards, brochure paper, presentation paper and plastic cards through it.

Regarding connectivity, this brother wireless scanner comes standard with a fast ethernet connection and you can connect it via USB cable too. The wireless LAN connection is also included, as we have chosen only devices that are able to connect to your wireless access point router.

Like other network document scanners in our test, this desktop scanning device also comes with a lot of bundled software, such as Nuance PaperPort or Presto Page Manager 9. Of course, the scanner is Energy Star certified so the power consumption is minimal and the operating temperature is between 5 and 35 degrees celsius.

If you are looking for other sheetfed scanner types from Brother like portable scanners, the Brother DSmobile scanner line has several models to choose from and our recommendations are the Brother ads-1250w wireless portable scanner and the Brother ads-1700w portable document scanner.

Which is the best document scanner with wifi?

So which wireless document scanner should we get?

Well, I must say from the start that my two favourites are the Fujitsu Scansnap IX1500 and the Raven Pro Document scanner. These are by far the best all round products, when you take into account features, software and also general quality of built.

The Fujitsu Scansnap IX1500 is cheaper, comes with the support of a large manufacturer such as Fujitsu and in general will never disappoint you. It’s a fair device, with fair features for the price and it just works. Yes, it could’ve been a bit faster, but all in all I still think is’a good product.

The Raven Pro Document Scanner has a really big touchscreen and was built with a sole purpose to be a very efficient digital sender. It does not require a computer to work and the large touchscreen really helps when going through settings or other features. It’s just a bit more expensive than the Fujitsu, but at the same time it’s way faster, so it might be worth it.

The other 3 devices are also decent products, but if you want to buy the best document scanner with wifi try and stick to the two mentioned above.

So who is missing from the list of wifi document scanners? The Kodak alaris s2060w, the Canon imageFORMULA DR-C225W, fujitsu fi-7160, HP ScanJet Pro 3000 and Visioneer Patriot H60, Doxie Go SE wifi, a wireless portable document scanner and VuPoint magic wand portable scanner which has two modes, either as a wand scanner or autofeed and has memory card support. But what about flatbed scanners? If you are looking for reviews of scanners like the Canon Canoscan Lide, Epson perfection v600, check out our website where we review all of them and if you are interested in photo scanners we will be soon writing our review on the Epson Fastfoto ff-680w. There is always the option of buying a color laser all-in-one printer that be it a photo printer with an inkjet system or a laser printer that has WiFi but there are downsides in scanning quality, speed and reliability. All-in-one HP printers will perform far worse than HP Scanjet duplex scanners. You can find all these devices that we listed here on Amazon, BH photo video, Best Buy and Office Depot.
