Sometimes speed is your number one criterion for a scanner, other times, you will go for reliability or some other interesting features and the Epson Workforce DS-575W probably has what you are looking for.

Here, for instance, we can mention the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and Wireless connectivity and it also has Ethernet (optional). So, even if this device has a scanning speed of 35 PPM, you can still get the job done pretty fast. It also has ADF capacity of 50 sheets, which means that you won’t have to load your documents one by one manually.

It has a Daily Duty Cycle of 4,000 sheets, which is also the case for two other scanners featured in this article.
The Epson DS-575W features Long Document scanning mode (240 in), an Optical Resolution of 600 dpi, i.e, Dots per inch, supports A4 format and scans 70 images per minute in duplex scanning mode. This is not production scanner speed, but it is still pretty fast. The scanning area of this device is 8.27 in x 11.69 in, but so do most scanners that we feature in this article.

So, how long is the life of the feed rollers from the paper feed system on this color document scanner? Well, this scanner has a Feed Roller Replacement of 100 000 documents. To give you a better idea, let’s say you have 2 consumable kits cost more or less the same. One can scan 150 000 pages and the second 300 000 pages, then the 2nd one is twice cheaper.

The scanning software bundle has the following apps: Epson Scan 2, Epson Document Capture (This is for Epson scanners what Capture Pro software is for Kodak Alaris scanners, the basic scanning app), ABBYY FineReader Sprint, NewSoft Presto! BizCard OCR, EMC ISIS.

As for image enhancement software, the Epson DS-575W comes with Automatic color detection, Automatic rotation, it will detect blank pages and it also has MultiStream, Automatic Cropping, Edge Correction, Background Cleaning and Deskew. And even if it does not have Streaks Correction, it does come with Hole Punch Removal, Manual Feed Mode, Document Separation, Barcode Recognition, OCR and Zonal OCR. The provided OCR is from ABBYY and that is the best option for scanning. As long as the text is printed by laser printers or inkjet printers, you should get a recognition accuracy of 99%+.

The HP Scanjet Pro 2000 S1 has a visually pleasing design, not overpowering, that will blend quite nicely in most office spaces or homes. It is A4 in size, like all the scanners in this article and it has a Scanning area of 8.5 in. x 11.7 in, so any document size up to A4 portrait and landscape can be scanned plus a 600 DPI optical resolution.

Despite being a reliable color duplex scanner and having a small footprint, the HP Scanjet Pro 2000 S1 wouldn’t be our first choice. This is not a network scanner, it only comes with a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Connectivity, so just the standard for most office products. However, as we mentioned previously, it has a small footprint, with a weight of 5.7 lb.

This 30 PPM scanner also lacks some color scans enhancement features like Automatic rotation, Blank Page Detection, MultiStream, Manual Feed Mode for fragile paper handling (For extremely fragile documents, it is best to use a carrier sheet and never in auto mode, only manual feed mode), Barcode Recognition, Document Separation and Zonal OCR.

It is worth noting that this 30 PPM Document Scanner features OCR, Hole Punch Removal, Deskew, Edge Correction, Automatic color detection, Automatic Cropping and Background Cleaning.

The HP Scanjet Pro 2000 S1 has a 2000 sheet recommended daily volume and it can scan 60 images per minute. The Automatic Document Feeder ADF tray capacity is 50 sheets and the Feed Roller Replacement is 100 000 pages.

If you need a version with a flatbed for those situations where you have to perform a manual scan, HP doesn’t make flatbed scanners anymore, but you can buy a 2-in-1 like the 2500 f1 which is sheet fed for scans that work in normal mode and has a flatbed unit for fragile documents.

35 PPM simplex, 70 IPM duplex, 600 dpi optical resolution, A4 format…we now present you the Epson ES-500W. With an Auto Document Feeder ADF Size of 50 sheets as well as a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and WiFi connectivity, this scanner scores some good points in terms of productivity.
You will also get a clean document scanning with features such as Blank Page Detection, Automatic Cropping, Edge Correction, Background Cleaning, Deskew and Hole Punch Removal. Even though it has a USB port, the problem with this scanner and many ADF workgroup scanners in general is that they don’t save the scanned images on a USB storage device like external hard drives, this interface type is only used for connecting to your PC and Mac through the USB cable.

This 30 ppm Scanner also comes with image processing features such as Barcode Recognition, OCR and Zonal OCR, Manual Feed Mode and MultiStream.
This device has a Daily Duty Cycle of 4,000 sheets and Feed Roller Replacement of 100 000 documents scanned. The Long Document scanning mode goes up to 240 in, which is on par with most scanners featured in this article. This is a document scanner for pc and Mac with compatibility on both platforms and the system requirements are not high as the scanner does most of the work, so you don’t need to have the latest Intel Core processor, however in most of our tests we have noticed that if the PC is faster, the scanner scans faster.

This color duplex document scanner has a scanning area of 8.27 in x 11.69 in, but it is almost the same for all scanners that we reviewed in this article. It has a straight pass scanning system that allows you to scan thicker materials that don’t bend like plastic cards. Epson also makes another very good scanner called the Epson DS-530 which we also reviewed.

Unfortunatelly there is no flatbed accessory compatible with the Epson ES-500W, so the best thing to do would be to buy a Legal size flatbed scanner like the Epson V39.

The Fujitsu Scansnap IX1500, one of the most popular devices from the ScanSnap series, successor of the Fujitsu Scansnap IX500, is definitely one of the scanners with the smallest footprint here when you put the scanners side-by-side, at a weight of only 7.5 lbs. The USB 3.1 and WiFi connectivity will allow you to work quickly. However, at a speed of only 30 PPM Duplex and that means 60 images per minute, a USB 2.0 connectivity is good enough to get the job done. It is also the only scanner in this article that has a touch screen which gives it a huge improvement in usability.

This A4 format scanner has a 600 DPI Optical Resolution in dpi monochrome and color together with an ADF Size of 50 sheets. In Long Document scanning mode, you can scan long documents as long the paper sizes are up to 118.11 inches long and A4 in width. However, most of the devices we review in this article have a Long Document scanning mode of 240 inches, so it is not its most notable feature. It has an ultrasonic sensor for detecting when 2 sheets of paper have been mistakenly fed into the scanner.

This 30 PPM Scanner has a scanning area of 8.27 in x 11.69 in and Feed Roller Replacement of 200 000 sheets, which is means it is twice cheaper to scan with this device than most of the scanners featured in this article.
You will probably appreciate features such as Automatic color detection, Automatic rotation, Blank Page Detection, Automatic Cropping, Edge Correction, Background Cleaning, Deskew, Manual Feed Mode for different document types that need more careful handling and OCR.

The software bundle that comes with this sheetfed scanner includes: ScanSnap Home (Windows / macOS) – ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap (Windows / macOS) – Nuance Power PDF Standard (Windows) – Nuance PDF Converter for Mac (macOS). You can upload your scanned documents to Google Drive, Dropbox or Evernote through the ScanSnap Cloud module.

Note that the Daily Duty Cycle of 400 is far less than the other models featured here, but this will not limit you when using the scanner. You will still be run the scanner smoothly. The real difference is that you might have to replace the consumables more often if you are a heavy user.

The Fujitsu Scansnap IX1500 does not have MultiStream, so you won’t be able to scan documents with different settings through a single pass. It does not have Streaks Correction either or Hole Punch Removal. The device is energy star certified so it has minimal power consumption. Even though it does not feature Document Separation, Barcode Recognition or Zonal OCR, the Fujitsu Scansnap IX1500 remains a good choice for light-duty service.
