What’s so special about it?

The IRISCan Anywhere 5 is a sheetfed, lightweight, portable scanner. It is small in size and weighs 0.73 lb. (0.33 kg). It can scan up to 16 images per minute and comes with a high resolution of up to 1200dpi. It comes with a built-in 1200mAH Li-polymer battery. It also comes with a bright 1.44″ color LCD screen that allows you to preview the scans. Additionally, it comes with a Micro SD card where the scans can be stored. It also offers a wireless version that can scan directly to any device via wifi or USB. It comes bundled with software such as Readiris Pro 15, Cardiris Pro 4 (Mac), Cardiris Corporate 5.7 and IRISCompressor Pro (Mac). This software enables the scanner to extract and export data from the scans to Microsoft Word and Excel files. The software also enables the scanner to create searchable PDF files.

The IRISCan Anywhere 5 scan speed is up to 16 images per minute. This is a pretty decent speed considering its size. It comes with a very high resolution of up to 1200dpi. This is more than you will ever need. You can do normal office work with 300 or 600dpi without any problems. At 1200dpi, the OCR is excellent but don’t make a habit out of using these high scan resolutions because the digital images will take a lot of hard-disk space.

The scan size is A4 and it accepts all paper sizes a maximum document size of 8.27 x 11.69 in (210 x 297mm). This means that it can scan documents that are as long as 29.7cm. This is very small compared to other portable scanners that can scan over 100cm.

The Iris IRISCan Anywhere 5 scanner supports USB connectivity. It also comes with an upgraded version, IRISCan Anywhere 5 Wifi, that supports both a connection through USB cable and wireless connectivity.

It does not come with a TWAIN interface. This may make it difficult to integrate the scanner to custom applications.

This sheetfed scanner comes with a Contact Image Sensor (CIS). This sensor requires the documents to perfectly touch the scanning glass for a perfect scan. This may compromise the image quality when scanning old or crumpled documents.

Features for Productivity

Quality of images

It supports Optical Character Recognition (OCR). This enables it to create editable and searchable files. It works together with other software such as Cardiris to extract data from the scanned images.

It does not offer Punch Hole Removal. This means that when scanning documents that have punch holes, the holes will appear in the scans. This may not affect the quality of the images in any way. Mostly the punch holes do not interfere with the documents’ contents. The punch holes will just appear as small, black circles.
