Canon imageFORMULA DR-S150 Datasheet Explained
This device is a very good A4 scanner, with a scanning size that can match 8.5 inches by 14 inches.
Canon has fitted a very efficient CIS sensor, which will take you to an optical resolution of around 600dpi.
The machine will enter the competitive network scanners market, as it can scan through Wifi, USB 3.2 and of course the highly reliable Ethernet LAN. There are numerous connection options on this machine.
It provides easy operation and at 45ppm in simplex, it’s quite fast I must say. In duplex, you will probably achieve 90ppm.
The high speed will let you achieve around 4,000 sheets every day. This is possible because of the well known robust design that Canon implements in all its scanners.
While the Canon imageFORMULA DR-S150 works with a TWAIN driver interface, it would have helped to also have an ISIS driver or even WIA.
Replacing the roller kit should be done every 200,000 pages and sometimes even more often.
Specs for paper handling
There is no surprise that Canon has fitted the DR-S150 scanner with an Overlap Detection feature. This is achieved with the smart Ultrasonic sensor.
The automatic document feeder has a capacity of nearly 60 sheets if you use standard paper.
I also like the paperweight scanning range, which goes from 13 all the way to 141 lb.
While this is not a wide format scanner, it does provide a long document scanning feature, that can process documents up to 118 inches.

No options included, such as flatbed scanners, this machine is 10 by 11 by 10 inches in size.
The weight is not very high, and it is around 7lbs. This value is relatively low, especially when compared with production scanners.
When it comes to the delivered scanning applications, the Canon imageFORMULA DR-S150 has the CaptureOnTouch Pro and CaptureonTouch Job Tool.
Features for Productivity
I must say that from the start I was very impressed with the features this scanner offers, considering it is still a low-cost machine.
It offers auto page detection and auto-crop, which comes in handy when you have a mix of document sizes.
Automatic rotation is standard, so images can be automatically arranged in portrait or landscape layout, based on the content they have.
Multi-stream and Auto color detection are standard. These are real lifesavers when you want to create separate output files of different settings for the same batch.
Last but not least, the blank page detection works great and it lets you save time by not having to manually eliminate them.
Quality of images
Other settings that you will love on this device are the image processing features.
The background cleanup function eliminates any uneven shades in your image, making it look clean and saving a lot on file size.
Then we have the edge cleanup function, which takes each image and corrects any quality defects that affect its margins.
Deskew should be a standard feature on any scanner and the DRS150 is not missing it. This straightens images automatically by using a special algorithm.
Even removing punched holes automatically is simple and the user does not have to interfere with this setting manually.
There is one missing feature which is the streak correction and removal. Usually, such an option is reserved for more expensive higher-end document scanners.
Extra Features
Crumpled documents are no problem for the Imageformula DRS150 scanner. Just enable manual scanning and you are good to go.
The barcode recognition option is present on this scanner and it can help with a lot of things. For example, you can use it to separate documents. This can be achieved also with white pages or a specially designed patch code.
But you can also use barcodes to index documents automatically, and collect certain data from your pages. Another good indexing method is the Zonal OCR feature, which improves data collection, especially for standardized forms.
Last but not least we have a full OCR capability, which recognizes text from your scanned images and converts it to readable data.
