The Raven Original Document Scanner is one of the top network document scanners you can buy today. It is compatible with all operating systems, Windows, Mac OS and Linux, but then it would be because it is actually a standalone scanner. You don’t really need a PC or a Mac to operate it. Everything happens from a big touchscreen LCD. The LCD has a great pixel density and allows you to do things that you could not do on a scanner until now like crop the image, adjust the color balance or rotate the layout orientation.

This top rated document scanner uses a CIS – Contact Image Sensor to produce a digital copy of your document at up to 600 dpi optical resolution. You can connect the scanner to your computer through either a Wi-fi connection or Ethernet port. It does also have a USB port but that is just for scanning to USB flash drives.

What is indeed again unique about this scanner is how the Optical Character Recognition process happens. It happens in the Cloud. Top scanners usually use a license for ABBYY, ReadIris or Nuance, but with this document scanner, they chose to implement the OCR in the cloud. It can only convert the scanned images to searchable PDF files, so not the greatest choice, but it is an elegant solution.

This top feed scanner probably has the most cloud integrations. You can scan directly to the cloud storage of your choice: Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive or OneDrive just to name a few.

The Raven is certainly on the top of our top scanners of 2020 list.

The IX1500 has a similar price to the Raven and is faster with a scan speed of 30 Pages per Minute. The image resolution and color depth are the same at 600 dots per inch and 24-bit.

This top document scanner that takes a classic approach to OCR by bundling the ABBYY software in the package which can convert the JPEG, Bitmap or TIFF digital images into Microsoft Word documents or Excel spreadsheets with editable text.

As far as cloud storage options work, it is very similar to the Raven. You can choose to upload the images to the ScanSnap Cloud or to Google Drive or other platforms.

The IX1500 also makes our top ten scanners of all time list.

The Canon R40 is another one of the top rated scanners you can buy in 2020. It is a new model that was launched in 2019 and is quite fast for its price, the only problem is that it doesn’t offer enough connectivity options. It can only connect through USB cable which for 2020 is extremely limited.

One of the surprising things about the R40 is its automatic document feeder ADF tray size. It can hold up to 60 sheets which greatly exceeds expectations for this price level. Canon offers TWAIN drivers, something not available with the Raven or IX1500. Even though it is not full of features and speed, it is one of the top document scanners you can buy in 2020.

The Fujitsu Fi-7160 is definitely one of the top rated document scanners of all time. This scanner has become very popular with its users, hence its 4.6 Amazon rating. The scanner cost way more than any of the scanners here but it is also much faster, because it has the ability to scan A4 paper documents at a speed of 60 sheets per minute. At this speed, it can be used for record management and digitizing large amounts of papers.

It has the highest image resolution of all the top scanners here. It can output a superior 1200 dpi optical resolution from the CCD sensor (Charge Coupled Device) which will produce high-quality and vivid RGB images. Even though it won’t always make a big difference, it’s always nice to have more pixels. Especially when scanning photos, sometimes the print is very detailed and the 1200 dpi resolution will bring up more detail. When scanning documents, it does not matter as much as OCR recognition accuracy doesn’t really change after 400 dpi. So the high resolution makes it suitable for photo scanning.

It also uses the Paperstream IP software which is one of the prime imaging software on the market. All the functions from auto crop, background removal, automatic deskew and color balance adjustment.

The Fi-7160 is one of the top sheetfed scanners you can buy today in your company.
