Raven Pro Document Scanner

The Raven Pro is maybe our favorite fast document scanner with feeder. Let’s start with the most important part, the feeder tray: It can hold up to 100 sheets in it which is quite a generous ADF tray capacity. This scanner has the biggest automatic document feeder capacity of all the scanners listed here. The next part is how fast the document feeder is and the Raven Pro is rated at a scan speed of 60 pages per minute.

As far as connection options go, this sheet feed scanner has them all: Wireless connectivity with cloud support, Ethernet connection and a USB port to scan to USB flash drives or connecting it to a Windows 10 or Mac OS device via TWAIN drivers.

The scanner uses a CIS which stands for Contact Image Sensor to produce digital images at 600 dots per inch. But that is nothing special because the best thing about this multi feed scanner is that it works completely independent and you can operate the entire scan process from its large 7″ touchscreen.

It has a manual feed mode for fragile documents and also multi feed detection so you don’t feed more documents at once.

The Fujitsu Fi-7160 is another great contender for the title of best scanner with feeder. It has the same scanning speed as the previous scanner with an automatic document feeder but with a few key differences.

First, this has a higher price, being almost 200$ more expensive.

Second, this is not a network scanner, it only has USB connectivity. This is a big minus however you look at it.

Third, this scanner with feeder tray has a pixel density of 1200 dpi which is superior to the other feeder scanners listed here. It will help with scanning photos and not so much with scanning documents. It is good to have the extra pixels for the high-quality sensor at hand for special photos or documents that require the high image resolution. The sensor has the same 24-bit RGB color depth and 8-bit in grayscale.

Then there is the software: It has one of the most advanced scanning software on the market, the PaperStream IP & Capture package. they have every possible function that you would expect: Automatic layout orientation, automatic cropping, deskew, background color removal, Zonal OCR, Barcode reading and several others.

This multi feed-scanner can output images in JPEG, TIFF, PNG and BMP format which the Raven cannot for some reason, but this can be solved in the future with an update.

Epson ES-400

The Epson ES-400 is our second scanner with feeder that we will be reviewing. It comes with a 50-sheet capacity auto document feeder tray which also has a scan speed of 35 sheets per minute. The user can scan any document up to a paper size of A4 and even if the document is extra-long up to 240 inches.

Along with the ability to connect to your PC via USB cable (It has a USB 3.0 port), you can also purchase an optional wired network port. The manufacturer recommends that you only scan up to 4,000 documents per day with it.

This desktop scanner with feeder comes with Optical Character Recognition software, more specifically the Nuance Omnipage. It can convert scanned images into Microsoft Word documents with editable text and searchable PDF files. The problem is that the software is not compatible with the Mac operating system, only with Windows computers, so be aware of that.

Obviously, the first two scanners have much higher specs but they also cost more than 2 or 3 times as much. This is the cheapest home office scanner with feeder listed here at approximately 280$, so you are getting a lot of features for your money.

The Brother ADS-2700W is a desk scanner with feeder that is more similar to the Raven in many respects. For example, it has all three connection options: Ethernet network connection, Wi-fi and a USB Port. It is the type of automatic feeder scanner that you place on a desk or a table in an open office and everyone in the department and workgroup can use it with each of them having their own scan profile and destination for documents.

When you scan in duplex mode, the scanner has a scan speed of 70 images per minute and you can stack 50 sheets in the scanner feeder tray. This is on the lower end of the sheet feed scanners we presented here.

You can scan direcly to the cloud to either Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive or Evernote.

Which scanner with feeder to choose?

The Raven Pro is our favorite because it is completely independent, has great software, a large touchscreen and the scanner feeder tray can hold up to 100 sheets, the most that you can get at that price point.

If you are not sharing the scanner and you are more focused on productivity and having more image post-processing options or indexing, then the Fujitsu Fi-7160 is the right scanner with feeder for you.

If your budget is low, the Brother ADS-2700 is our favorite automatic feed scanner at a low price point with a decent automatic document feeder. If you need a portable scanner with feeder, we recommend the ADS-1700W as it has an automatic feed tray and loads of features.
