Not everyone needs medium or high volume scanners as not everyone has large scanning jobs. Some customers only have a batch of around 10-20 documents a day
Other customer may have 20 batches of 3-4 documents every week, and they want to deal with them quickly but not tacking a huge amount of space and installing a larger scanner.

The Panasonic KV-s 2087 is definitely the fastest and the most productive scanner we are reviewing in this article. It should breeze through 80 pages every minute and when in duplex mode, it should scan around 160 images per minute.
You might wonder why we include it in the low volume selection? Well, when scanning larger volumes, the consumables might make the scanning process less feasible than when using a superior model.
Also, this is an A4 scanner, and it’s hard to imagine that you won’t get occasional A3 scans when running a scanning production facility. But for office use and low volumes, this is a great scanner to have.
It’s not the cheapest out there, but it will definitely work very well, even in busier scanning environments. The software Panasonic offers, ImageCapture Plus, is a great tool to have when scanning.
This software is bundled with the scanner and has various scanning options, from less complicated to even very advanced ones.

This Canon scanner is small, light and can achieve a scanning speed of 60 pages per minute. I could say that it should run against the Fujitsu FI 7160 model, also featured in this article.
It has a USB connection, a screen to help you with different options and the Capture on Touch scanning software. Just like the Fujitsu, it will scan A4 documents and even has a long document mode, for those narrow but very long documents.
Yes, it is a newer scanner when compared to the FI-7160, but it’s missing some key features. The Captureontouch software is far from the performances of the Paperstream Capture Pro software.
It’s missing key features such as advanced indexing and renaming, not to mention scanning settings and image adjustments that the Paperstream IP features.

As you can definitely see, I am a big fan of the Fujitsu FI 7160 and the fi models in general.
The first thing I like is the CCD sensor they come with. This provides wonderful quality and with the Paperstream IP driver, you can use that quality and get different scanning settings and different scanning modes.
I would have to say there aren’t many digitization projects you can’t do with a Fujitsu. Just about any picture, matte or glossy paper will come out as expected.
With the Paperstream Capture software, you get a free but very complex scanning tool. The indexing features and file renaming tools are just wonderful and it’s something that we had to pay a lot for in the past, buying software such as Kofax or Kodak Capture.
I really like this scanner and there is only one model in this review that beats it. And it’s a Fujitsu scanner as well.

The Fujitsu FI 7460 scanner is the only model in this test, that can scan A3 pages. Yes, you might say that A3 scanning only happens very rarely, but it happens from time to time.
Especially for scanning service providers that are just starting with their business, or a scanning environment which is focused on A3 sheets, such a scanning size is really needed.
Compared to other A3 scanners, this is an entry-level model. The speed is fast, but nowhere near as fast as higher-end A3 production models. But it does provide most of the features that more powerful A3 scanners have, which is a good thing.
Driver and software-wise, it uses Paperstream IP and Paperstream Capture, which should be enough, especially for low volume scanning.
Editors Opinion
If we look carefully at our selection, we can easily see that the main focus is on A4 scanners.
Only one of these is A3, and that is the FI-7460 scanner. This will work great as an entry level A3 scanner, and is definitely our choice if you have on rare occasions you also get A3’s to scan.
The FI 7160 is a our choice if you need the cheapest low volume production scanner on the market.
The Panasonic KV-S2087 is a bit more expensive than the others, but you can scan a lot of documents with it. It is probably the most productive scanner out of the lot.
But it also costs more than the rest. That is why we would only recommend it, if your volumes are larger.
