Fujitsu Fi-800R Datasheet Explained

This scanner is capable of capturing a document size of 8.5 in x 14 in. It means that you can scan a standard A4, a Letter document or even a slightly larger sheet.

Also, you might want to take advantage of the carrier sheet option, which allows you to fold an A3 and scan it.

The Fujitsu Fi-800R will match an optical scanning resolution 600dpi. While you will be doing most of the scanning at 200 or 300, it’s good to have the possibility to process 600dpi documents.

You will see that the scanner is operating with a CIS sensor. It’s a great sensor, much more advanced than previous CIS sensors. At the same time, it won’t match CCD sensors for crumpled documents.

When you are thinking of data transfer, the scanner works with USB 3.2 Gen1x1 / USB 2.0 / USB 1.1. It’s enough to get a good scanning speed for most applications.

You can achieve a color scan speed of up to 40ppm every minute in simplex mode. When you enable duplex, the scanner goes up to 80ipm.

You’ll probably be surprised to hear that this scanner is optimized for an average recommended volume of 4,500 pages daily.

Being a Paperstream IP scanner, the device runs through both Isis and TWAIN.

Last but not least, if you need to do the consumable roller replacement, you have already scanned around 600.000 sheets with the scanner.

Specs for paper handling

Multifeed Detection is a standard feature as it is the case with most document scanners these days. The device comes with a high-quality Overlap detection (Ultrasonic sensor) to prevent any double feed or other possible problems.

Remember, this was a scanner designed with rollers that offer active separation. Even so, we would not recommend you use it without the multifeed detection turned on.

The automatic document feeder of this image scanner will hold around 20 pages, so the ADF has a decent loading size.

The maximum document weight that the Fujitsu Fi-800R can support 34lb, starting from 11lb. The front scanning path is designed as a straight scanning path and will return scan at the rear of the device. It’s great for a plastic ID, plastic cards even credit cards or passports.

In long document mode, you will be able to scan documents that go up to 220 in.

This device is capable of scanning long pages up to 220 in, with its Long Document Scanning Mode feature.

Fujitsu Fi-800R accessories unboxing

It’s not a big image scanner, so the space it takes on a workbench should not be more than 11 x 4 x 4 inches.

If you’re concerned that the FI-800R is on the heavy side, don’t be. The weight of this equipment is very low, around 4.4 lbs. So this means you’ll get a small scanner, just like the Fujitsu fi7030, but with more features and options.

Regarding the delivered software, just like other Fi series scanners, it comes with the PaperStream IP Driver (TWAIN/TWAIN x64/ISIS) and it integrates with the  PaperStream Capture or even Paper Stream Capture Pro.

Compared to an Epson Workforce this device has way more scanning features and it uses a prof

Besides these, you will find a CD with the Software Operation Panel, Error Recovery Guide, and the Scanner Central Admin. All these are administration software tools and you should take a better look at them, especially if you are having problems with your scanner.

Last but not least we have the windows acquisition driver, ( Wia driver 10 ) and the Abby FineReader for Scansnap 11. This last software is really nice, as it has an express feature that can do OCR to searchable PDF in no time.

Features for Productivity

The Auto Crop is one of the features that still amaze me today. It works very well with the Fujitsu Fi-800R scanner, just like with other Fujitsu Document Scanners.

I also like the Automatic Rotation of Images, especially for documents that are not homogenous, when it comes to orientation. A mix of portrait and landscape documents will be handled by this setting automatically, without you having to constantly adjust and readjust.

More often than not, we tend to use the automatic color detection. The Fujitsu Fi-800R scanner will let you use this function easily, and you can enable it through the Paperstream IP driver.

As you would expect, running the scanner with blank page detection and removal is possible. Again, it’s enabled from the Paperstream driver, which is identical to other FI scanners.

Last but not least, the multistream function. This allows you to create various output files at the same time. So you might have color and grayscale, color and bitonal or even grayscale and bitonal.

Quality of images

Background Removal is a must-have feature with a lot of documents these days. It’s standard with most scanners and it’s not missing on the Fujitsu FI-800R.

With the Edge Correction on the Fujitsu Fi-800R scanner, most scanned images tend to look better than your original paper documents.

One of the images processing functions I like is the Skew Reduction feature. Use it and you will not be disappointed.

The deskew feature is not a new type of feature, but it’s as valuable today as it always was. Even if your document is fed incorrectly through the scanner, this feature will correct it automatically. That is why having an automatic skew correction function is mandatory these days.

Hole Punch Removal is a nice feature to have those nasty black dots removed. The images turn out clean and crisp on all edges.

The Streaks Removal feature is one of those features that is found only on more expensive scanners. The versatile Fi800R has such a feature, and for text documents, it can do wonders.

It is the only cheap document scanner to have this feature as standard.

Extra Features

The manual feed option on the Fujitsu FI-800R is really good. It has a different entry than the ADF, therefore you don’t have to take your documents out and put them back in.

When you combine the ADF with the manual entry, this will make your scanner into a small workhorse, and interchanging will be done very easily.

What I love about the Detect Barcodes modules, are the QR code recognition features. It makes for flawless scanning.

The barcode recognition module is standard on this device. This also allows for the recognition of QR codes. All the data collected can be used for file naming or indexing of documents.

Are you currently using the function to automatically separate documents? I really encourage you to try it, especially with QR codes.

The separation of documents can be done automatically using Barcodes and Qr Codes, this being the most popular solution. There are also other options for this, such as white pages or even patch code sheets.

With this scanner, you should expect to have OCR included. Convert to searchable PDF automatically and directly from your scanning job. Also, with the AbbyFinereader module, you can select to OCR to Word, Doc, DOCX and even RTF files.

The Paperstream Capture software has another interesting OCR feature which is the Zonal OCR. You can enable it from the scanning settings windows and can use the zonal OCR to rename files and collect metadata.
